With the Fall Sander sale going on I've stocked up on Festool Sanders (although I really wish they would have included the linear and 1/2 sheet sander in the deal, but I'm still happy with what IS on sale!)
in "stocking up" I've come to realize that there are really more accessory pads, felts, sponges and SOOO many different abrasives, that it's not really possible for me to choose exactly what I need most.
Can anyone share some advice on the various sanding and polishing products from Festool?
I realize there are some brief descriptions on the Festool website, and on many of the dealer website item pages too, but I would much rather hear some real world advice from other users, about what you use, how you use it and what kind of results you achieve ?
I've started out with a ROtex 90 a Rotex 150, and although I grumbled a bit under my breath, I have an LS130 and an RS2 on the way also. I picked up the accessory systainers for the two Rotex sanders, but they're coming in EMPTY as I just don't know which types and quantities to get yet.
normally, I sand down to 150 with a finishing platen in my Wide Belt Sander, and use a Dynabrade DA sander (Pneumatic) with 150 or 180g -depending on species and type of finish required.
I should probably mention that I build Stairs, Doors, cabinets and architectural Finish carpentry elements, from custom ceilings to wainscot to flooring.
I mill a lot of my own millwork, and up until now it has been a tremendous hand sanding effort prior to pre-cat or CV finish which I usually use.
The stair work often requires a good deal of sanding, so I expect these 4 sanders will really lighten my load while achieving better results, but since I now have the capability to build and potentially finish in NEW ways, I am interested in trying out some conventional finishes such as waxing / polishing some certain types of workpieces.
and advice on which pads/sponges and abrasives will be greatly appreciated.
PS I'm picking up a Shinex and a RAS115 before the sale is over and in general any advice for ANY and ALL of Festool's lineup is all within the scope of this subject
Thanks,
Kyle
