Paint supply hose fittings

That's a  3/8 Male NPSM x 3/8" Male NPT but I also have one with a 1/4" NPT to which you'd attach a paint supply hose with a 3/8" fitting. I have three hoses, two 1/4" and one 3/8".  Only the 3/8" will tighten up before the nut on the hose fitting hits the hex in the center and therefore leak.  Since this a mod I'm doing for a pressure pot setup, the fitting is attached to another which is removable so I can machine the hex back or right off but of course to remove it later requires being drill it out!

No because most all are steel fittings, one needs either brass, plated brass or even better in stainless.  I found some in 1/4" NPSM(F) in my garage that have to be forty years old with short threads as well.  I think they are all made for plastic/copper tubing use with ferrule sleeve which isn't used in the painting industry.

The one hose that did work had maybe 1/32" of clearance before contacting the hex.  Funny the other two, one was slightly loose and the other was really loose!

I took the fitting that it's in, chucked it up in my lathe, removed the hex portion and it tightened up with no leak.
