I put this panel up and am being paid to fix this under warrenty.
So the question is how do I fix it.

I was thinking sand paper 4000 grit???
Do just the frame
I'm on my phone so this is short.

Yeah I think you just need to buff it out with a polishing pad or some very fine sandpaper. Maybe give the panel a new rub of oil afterwards. If you try to sand it, I would do this by hand and not a machine.

i would think that if you wet sanded it or buffed it out it would be ok. again i think hand sanding would give more control.

It looks like the damaged area was 'burnished' by the cardboard and may actually be a bit shinier? It looks like the intended finish is satin finish, not gloss. Maybe some careful wet sanding and possibly then some polishing might even it out?  If the back side or a concealed edge is finished, those might be good places to do some testing before you work on the 'show' face.

+1  maybe some light/fine steel wool would buff it down to a matte/satin finish and blend in with everything else.    I think I would be fearful of any kind of sanding.  Seems like too much material removal to me unless you use super extra fine grit or automotive type emery with grits more towards a 1000 or more.

If available try a Platin 4000 grit pad and lightly rub the panel until blended or an old school simple trick is to use a brown paper bag and rub it out. Unfortunately today the brown paper bag may be harder to find than the Platin 4000.

I've had to fix stuff like that.  Of course everything isn't the same situation, but try 0000 (four ought) steel wool.  No sanding, just some super fine surface mod.  Go in a straight up and down motion so it's less visible (with the grain) on the whole panel.

I want to thank everyone for their input. Thank You all!!  [thumbs up]

I also went to Woodcraft and asked them and they sold me

Which looks like

I attached that to my PC orbital sander and it made the wood nice and warm but did not touch it even 1%.

Then I unfolded 0000 steel wool and then folded it in half. Then I attached that to my sander It Took about three passes and this was the results

which I would say it's about 95% there. I can't say for sure because a storm came in.

This is what the steel wool looked like after I was done.

So once again thank you everyone.

PS I did use some liquid gold on the panel then I used paper towels and the orbital to buff it out.

I used about 10 paper towels and kept going with the orbital till gray quit coming off the towels.

I found It best to put two paper towels thick when using the random orbital to buff with them.
