Parts bins

New to FOG and Am just starting with my Festool Collection. Picked up a Kapex and a ct26 to start. I am adding, an os1400, an ets150, an of1400, and a ts55 and bench as soon as I close on a house in the next few months. As for now I have access to a pretty full woodworking shop. Any recommendations how to build some parts bins on the cheep but something that will remain sturdy for the next 20 years. They will be supporting copper fittings. 8 bins high x 8 wide. I was thinking 7' tall x 8' wide x 12" deep.

My first thought was something similar to this. My question is, will 3/4 ply support a structure like this. Most likey no more then 40 lbs will ever be in any of the bins andwill most likely be less than 20lbs per bin

I think 3/4 will do if you make everything sturdy and interconnected like in the picture, but to be sure I would step up one thickness. We can get 22 mm ply over here, which is about 7/8''. Can you get that? Shouldn't cost much more than 3/4 and this time you're sure it's strong enough.

I priced it out and it will not be much more expensive ($80 or so)to make the base, top, and columns out of 2x12s, 1/2" ply backing, 1x10x1" strips to support shelves and 3/4 ply for the shelves. I think this may be my route.

Look into I-joist. You can get them in various heights and lengths. They would have the profile you see for the dividers. Should save you assembly time.

. Good idea, the lumber yards cut to length all the time and have lots of cut offs in various lengths

I guess that would definately save my back and possibly some cash. I had planned on making a deck frame putting the backing on and lifting it against the wall then adding shelf supports, shelves and 1x4 fronts. My ct26 shows up today so I guess I have till saturday morning to make this choice. Ill put up results on Monday

3/4 takes up too much space. I'd use 1/2" for the verticals and 3/4 for the horizontal. You're not talking about a very heavy thing overall, I think half inch is more than adequate for this.
