Paulk workbench plans

I just downloaded the plans for Paulk workbench II.

Is it me or do the inches not match the millimeters?
It look like i'm always 2mm off. Somtimes even more.

Anybody else got this problem?

I checked a few measurements.  It's either exact or rounded to the next mm.  It's not that far off.  To me, some of these measurements are guides and you need to adjust to your tools or needs.

Doing so, remaking the whole thing in sketchup seems to be the best option.

Got the Workbench 2 plans and the section marked "Materials list imperial/metric" that gives dimensions for the optional router fence must have some fairly serious rounding if 16" equals 940mm.

I downloaded the plan to my main computer which wasn't the best idea either. I meant to transfer it over to my phone cos I often have rips of ply spare from jobs at work and if its on my phone I always have the sizes on me so I can knock up sections as and when but I can't transfer them over for some reason. Might be my computer and I'm no computer genius so I'll just have to print it out instead.

I contacted him, and he says that i have to round everything myself.

Bad investment in my eyes. So now i am busy, making my own plans. Redoing it and as soon as i am satisfied i will post the plans here. ;-)

I just have a little trouble finding the right rails to mount in the sides of my workbench. Don't know what type i could use for that. And to find them in Belgium or the Netherlands.
If anybody has an idea...

Which rails are you talking about?  Do you mean the pipe that is used to support the table saw?  There's a tiny note that that pipe is 1" Electrical Conduit (galvanized steel hollow pipe).  In other words:http://www.homedepot.com/p/Allied-Tube-Conduit-1-in-EMT-Conduit-101568/100400409

I would expect that you could find some similar metal pipe in Belgium or something of similar strength.

I built the Paulk-total station from his design in mm's, had no problems with it [huh]
in my opinion; plans were good value for money  [big grin]

I also like Ron Paulks plans but I work in imperial so I've never tried the metric dimensions.  I also haven't built exactly any of his plans but still find the information and the ideas very useful.  I built a 3'x7' workbench with the top like the total workstation (9 inches instead of 7 for the workbench).  My workbench has legs and a bottom shelf and rolls around on 6 totally locking casters.  Ron's plans are not like that.  But I built his crosscut jig and pretty much followed the plans except I shortened it to fit my 7 foot workbench.  I plan to built a 7 inch top for one end of my RAS/CMS workbench but will use the flush flip stops of the total workstation. 

I could look at his videos and do something like he's done but to me it's well worth the money to have all the dimensions right in front of me.  If it saves me a little material or time, and I think I've saved both, it is a good deal.

I built my bench after watching his video series and figured through the build myself (no sheet plans).  I like the mental gymnastics of the activity...then I bought his plans to support him and to encourage his channel efforts.

My opinion is, if you want to be successful, your best bet is to be able to figure through things.  No plan is perfect.

Not to hijack, but has anyone built the miter station plans? The plans do not show any way to attach the top to the sawhorses. Do most folks just rest the top on there?

I have built the miter station. The bench just sits on top of the sawhorses. I do put the bench a little more towards the front since the Kapex hangs a little more weight to the back. But works just fine.
I would change the wings on the bench if I made it again. Don't think I'd use the dovetails, think I'd use some type of t track. And I'd move the fence forward maybe 1".

Thanks JBag. That makes sense. I ended up putting my dado for the fence in line with the fence. I know Ron set his back, but for me, I think putting it in line will be better.

I haven't built the wings yet, so I appreciate the thoughts on the T-Track. I'll look into that option.
