So i have just used my pdc properly for the first time, and i have to say i'm thoroughly disappointed, in fact i'm borderline mad, 12 x 100 x 6 screws into dry framing timber and its red hot and incapable of sinking the screws, just constantly beeping when ever shown any load, and i was using spax screws so no cheap crap. And eventually brain farted altogether and wouldn't work till im presuming it had cooled down, had to phone my pal who brought round his dewalts to finish the job, quite embarrassing seen as the dewalts are the ones i sold him to buy this.

Now i have all but changed out completely to festool, txs, bch, planer, plunge saw, domino, jigsaw, of1010 and a few other bits and bobs and they have all been hands down the best tools i have ever owned but this drill is a massive let down.

I mean the promotional vids show this thing driving in massive screws, yet mine cant manage 100mm with any conviction, is there a problem with the drill or are they just not much use for driving? Im actually worried about how this thing could handle auger bits and if its just going to let me down. My old dewalt used to get hot, but it never actually refused to work.

Any one any ideas?

Cheers Chris.

Not my experience at all ... I'm assuming lowest gear and hammer "OFF" .. yes?

Those screws should be a piece of p*** to the PDC. Suspect there may be something wrong with yours.

If it's within the 14 days, take it back & get it swapped. If not, it'll need to go back for repair.

Just out of interest, what speed/clutch setting were you in? Where was it getting hot (gearbox, motor, handle, battery)?

1st option is to call Festool Support. You may just have a problem drill.

2nd option is to return it if you're still within the "evaluation" period, and try a new one.

Reverse that. 2nd option is quicker.

Mine will drive in 100mm screws in speed 3 all day (softwood framing timber)!! There is def' something wrong with yours.
Honestly, I haven't yet found a task that the PDC / DRC can't handle

The only time the housing gets hot is when I'm using the hammer drill function on the PDC for prolonged periods.
The handle gets warm if the light is on (no one knows why)

Take yours back. I promise you won't be disappointed in one that is working properly.

Yep sounds like you've got a dud one . Mine does everything I need it to , great drill

Definitely some thing wrong what I found was make sure the torc of off. The the last 2 days I have just finished a metal sheeted roof 8mm x 60 hex heads into old wood over 600 screws with one and bit  battery's. Send it back if the torx setting adjustment is to the farthermost side

Having put upto 250mm x8mm screws in with it i can say something isnt right with that

Yeh i tried every setting all the speeds, when it finished spitting its dummy out i used it to drill 6 12mm holes with a spade bit a  new one at that and it struggled with that too. Im gona have to send it off, im out ofmy trial period, if not id have sent it back end of story.

I bought it over a month ago, but was subbing for a housing assosiation that suplied each team with a makita power tool set so didnt use any of my own tools.

Whats the usual turn arround for the sorts of things in the uk? Not sure my txs will handle drilling 30 locks in oak doors  [blink] and im supposed to be doing that back end of next week.

Cheers chris

Not sure it applies to everything because I assume it depends on parts availability etc., but my Ti 15 has just been in for repair. Form submitted electronically to Festool UK on 19/05, reply on 20/05 with instructions, picked up by courier 21/05, back to me today (27/05).

Hope that helps.

Right then ill get on that first thing in the morning, cheers.

I hope if it goes off it comes back the tool i was expecting  [big grin]

Chris.

As suggested, ask for a loan tool . I've had to do it twice and can't fault customer service.

I have never managed to get the online repair forms to work, I know other people have also struggled. If this is a problem just give them a call, I have sometimes done it over the phone in the past.
