It just struck me that there's about a zillion people on the FOG that fall into this category for me. The internet is amazing in that it allows people that are geographically remote to communicate, but it also gives us the opportunity to say Hi, shake hands and enjoy a beverage in real, human face to face ways when the opportunity presents itself.

If there's ever a FOGger visiting Sydney that wants to chew the fat or even if they want to abuse me over a comment I've made over a beer, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Kev.

The problem with this [member=13058]Kev[/member]  is who does one offend by leaving out?

Certainly I would have a beer, even a Scotch, firstly with you and all the Ausies. Then internationally and not in order - well I started a list and then began to worry who I had left off!  [eek] The list was not nesseraily based on woodworking ability, but who had impressed me by their FOG personality. It even included some with whom I had 'enjoyed' some vigorous debates. And some who are no longer with us such as [member=25476]wow[/member] [ [member=51014]WOWsFamily[/member] ]

Spot on [member=13058]Kev[/member] - there are so many folks here who I just enjoy hearing from, sometimes I hit a thread that is otherwise uninteresting to me simply because of who started/posted on it.

Oz and NZ are my ultimate bucket list trip, but in my mind cannot be attempted in less than 2-3 months. Someday.

I have been fortunate to meet numerous Foggers in person and also to have shared a beverage of choice with them.  Without a doubt those encounters have been some of the most enjoyable and memorable visits I have ever had.

There are many people on the FOG I would have a beer with. Too bad we're all so geographically remote. About time we get those 5000 Km/h tube trains they're talking about.

Three Irish brothers would go to the pub every Friday night for a beer together.  Over time, one emigrated to America and one to New Zealand, but they kept up the tradition.  Every Friday night after work they would go to the local pub and order three beers, one for each brother, and drink up as a way of keeping each other in their thoughts.

One night, the last brother walks into the pub and only orders two beers.  The bartender is concerned.  "I know that you've ordered three beers, one for you and each of your brothers, all these many years.  I hope that nothing has happened."  To which the last brother replies, "Oh no - everything is fine.  I just quit drinking."

It strikes me that FOG serves the purpose of allowing people who otherwise would never meet each other to share what they know about a common area of interest, much as you might do over a beer if you lived in the same town.  So my suggestion is, go out to the pub next Friday and have a beer in honor of the comradery of FOG.  Maybe not one beer for each member, though.  Or a root beer if you've quit drinking :).

Cheers!

Well, I'm hoping that Lebanon, IN has a couple nice craft breweries and we can all have a beer after Festool Connect in September.

I'll be looking for a nice local oatmeal stout or double IPA.

Regards,
Gerald

how about if the comment wasn't made over a beer, could I still give you a hard time? [scratch chin]

PS: I think it is a great thought.  I have met a few FOGgers and have enjoyed every meeting.  Even the retailers i have met, either in person, or via internet or phone have been great.

Of course sometimes we do get together in the UK, but when that happens, the travelling distances involved mostly mean no alcohol to be consumed unfortunately (unless it's an overnighter of course!). But [member=10147]jobsworth[/member] has promised to get the snow cone machine out this year for his FOG BBQ so maybe a few of us will be metaphorically raising a glass to the FOG membership...  [wink]

Oh snap I got to get the syrup. ....... Amazon is my friend .....

Maybe you hook up the live feed so the nocturnals in the states will have something to watch other than Jerry Springer reruns

Just want to make a note for Aussie or UK regulars on the FOG that if you ever need a place to stay in NYC, I'd be happy to help you out.

Snow cones sound wonderful - In northern Colorado we're headed for 100F this weekend, but that's 15-20F less hot (can't bring myself to say cooler) than parts of Arizona.

I assume you'll post pictures of everyone with snow cones raised for those of us who can't attend due to much greater travelling distances.

Pretty much opposite ends of the spectrum.

I am trying to put something together for the day after connect at my shop about 2.5 hours north of Festool USA.

I don't drink beer though. Maybe a good bottle of Scotch.

[member=13058]Kev[/member] , I guess if you're inviting [member=40772]Holmz[/member] then yours is truly an open invitation...!  (Just kidding, Holmz [big grin]).

I'm waiting for holographic video conferencing, then we can have a world wide party...

Well I was down in "the rocks" a month ago, then DC, and South Bend/Mishwaka, and LA-SoCal. So usually Sydney or Melbourne coming or going.

Are we talking 12, 18 or 25yr old?
