I've had my cxs now for almost three years.  Three years of daily use and abuse...it gets dropped, set down, knocked over, used as a hammer/mallet, and keeps going strong.  However, the batteries have started getting a little weak.  Not too bad, but noticeable.

So I call Festool USA to get replacements ordered.  The first question asked by Brad (I think, who was awesome btw) was "What is the serial number?  Hmm, I don't know, because the serial number/sticker is completely worn off!

Why do they put the serial number sticker on the side where it is exposed to daily wear and tear?

Problem was resolved, new batteries are on the way (again, incredible customer service and amazing patience shown waiting on the phone with me as I tore through my old records trying to find my original paperwork).

So if the tool is registered, even if you had more than 1 of the same tool, would it not show on the screen?

If not registered, then a good reason TOO register.  I would never find my paperwork.

I have a spreadsheet with all the Festool serial numbers and dates of purchase.  I also have a HUGE PDF file that is all of my Festool receipts scanned and annotated with serial numbers as appropriate.  I keep the file backed up on several computers, just in case one of them decides to puke the hard drive.

Good idea Willy.  Going to have to get my act together.  Kind of feel shady when I'm on the phone with Festool "I swear they're not stolen, they've just worn off with use."

See pics below.  I mean, if I send these in for service, how will they be able to tell?
