Hammer have HS (High  speed  steel)  blades  which can be sharpened    and  HW (tungsten carbide) blades  at nearly 6 times  more expensive.

The carbide blades  cannot  be sharpened afaik.
What  blades  do you  guys use?

I thought about the bladed cutter for my A3, but after doing a lot of research, I ponied up the extra $$ and bought the Silent Power spherical cutter.  I think that in the long run, it will work out cheaper than replacing full-length blades, whether HSS or otherwise.  If I get a nick on one of the blade inserts, I just turn it 90 degrees for a fresh face. Each insert has four sides, so........

I'm also not sure that there are any third-party blades available for Hammer jointer/planers, so if that's the case, you are pretty much locked into Hammer accessories.

Good luck,

Frank

My Powermatic planer and jointer use carbide squares mounted in a helical pattern. I've run a lot of very hard wood through both and the blades have never needed rotation to a fresh face.

I'd go with the carbide blade
