Greetings

Does anyone know how to calibrate the depth of cut on a new HL 850 E planer? My planer cuts even when the supplementary handle is set to "P", which is the "park" position when the cutter is supposed to be completely retracted. Festool says the tool comes ready to use out of the box and does not mention anything about an initial set up. Nevertheless I could not find anything about calibration in the manual.

Has anyone else had similar issues? Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

Chip

Yes, mine is the same.  I don't know how to adjust it.  Does anyone?  Help from one of the festool guys?

it shouldn't be like that! I got one and in P it is completely retracted! I would call  them up and send it back or ask them to tell u step by step how to sort it!

Sounds to me like the blade is slipping out of the holder....  Is that possible, as I don't own one of these planers.

Best,
Todd

Thanks for your thoughts...

Todd, the blade isn't slipping out of the holder. I was able to plane with the depth of cut set at "P".

Jmbfestool, I will contact the dealer to get the planer fixed/replaced. It's been a little over 30 days since I received it...

Cheers

i got mine a few months ago and p is retracted i would definetly call festool. >:(

Chip,

Upon inspection, I noticed that my planer was also out of calibration.

I found an adjustment screw located on the sole of the planer at the left side of the toe.  I set the depth to "0" and turned the screw counter-clockwise using the allen wrench included with the planer.  A straight edge set near the center of the sole (but not in the v-groove, and straddling the toe and heel), allowed me to determine the correct setting relative to the blade.

The reason I measured from the center is because the blade in my planer is cambered.

Hope this helps.
Mike
