Planex or planex easy. Reach question.

Gonna buy a planex by early July.  My only question is can a planet easy comfortably reach a 10' ceiling.  I'm redoing all the ceilings in my house and they're all 10'. No need in buying something that won't work.  I know what it's reach is and I think it'll do it, but real world feedback is better than any educated guess.

With Extension Sections attached to the Planex you can extend your reach. If you work off a low height scaffolding, you need less of the segments installed on the Planex. I have the harness for supporting the Planex but usually am not doing a whole ceiling so I tend not to use it.

That's what I was figuring.  I was just wondering if the planex easy can do a 10' ceiling without needing scaffolding or stilts. 

I rarely mess with 10' ceilings so buying the version that has extensions is pointless if it's not needed.

I have the regular PLANEX and just finished a new build with 10’ first floor ceilings. My sub did the drywall but with the regular PLANEX I think doing a large area would be a struggle unless you can bench 300lbs and 6’+ tall.

I don’t see the PLANEX easy length speck on Festool’s website but I did see it in a local paint shop a few months ago from what I can remember no way you will reach the ceiling unless you are a retired NBA player.

Length one the easy is 63".  But inhave no clue what that 63 includes or how it was measured.

  You add Festool- made extensions to the Planex to increase your reach with it. I think 3 lengths is the limit due to Dust Collection/Suction level worries by them since you're spacing the sander head further away from the handle assembly It's not that heavy even with all the extensions added to it, but the harness supports the sander best if you're sanding for long periods of time with it.

My ceilings in my home are 9 foot, I have reached them with all 3 ext. tubes attached to the sander, and it wasn't a stuggle.
  I think the poster here on FOG, [member=18235]Saskataper[/member], or something similar can answer your question better since he uses his Planex probably way more than me.

  I missed the 'EASY' part of your post twice, my bad. No, the 'Easy' IS short and you're not able to add Extensions like the Regular Planex. So, if you buy the EASY model in July this year, you're getting onto SOMETHING to reach a 10 foot ceiling.
I then looked up tech specs on weights of the two versions... EASY is listed as 8.8 lbs, and the Gen 1 Planex is 8.4 lbs with nothing added to it/ or base configuration, and 10.1 lbs with all its permitted Extensions attached to the Sander.  I was surprised by that, I would have thought the EASY was going to be the lighter of the two.. [blink]

When I was considering a Planex last fall I had a chance to talk to the trainers about both models.  If I had made the decision I would have chosen the original model.  Reasons why included its shorter length in original form - easier to do closet and hallway work - and also the extensions for taller work.

Sounds like I'll be getting them regular planex and some extensions.  The whole point of getting a sander is to NOT have to get on a ladder to sand.
