Thinking about buying the Planex + CT 36-AC combo. Right now I'm doing a plaster repair, which includes skim coating 10' ceilings. If I bought an one extra extension, is that going to reach comfortably? I'm 5'9" tall. Also, thinking about the harness, has anyone tried it? Would the soft pad be better for wavy plaster repairs? Thanks

Two extensions should work perfect for that height. I have two but most of my ceilings are 8 or 9 and one works fine, 10 would probably be a stretch.

How large of an area are you doing? One or two rooms I wouldn't get the harness, whole house it would be helpful. It does take some setup time the first time you use it to find a comfortable position to use it in.

The soft pad is a life saver on all ceilings for me. Makes things nice and smooth and reduces dig in of the edge of the pad.

Good luck! [smile]

Theres' a soft pad? Dang it, that would been sooo helpful. I can't believe I didn't read this or see it. Thanks!

There's a set that includes a soft pad and two interface pads, 496106.

You can also get just the two interface pads separately, 496140.

Worm Drive,

We have the Planex. My employee who uses it says the harness is essential if using the machine on ceilings for any length of time.

We have one extension, but haven't used the Planex on ceilings higher than 9'.  I'm not sure if in your projected use one would be enough.  Maybe Tom has an idea?

Whoops, I see BikeBoy has an answer about the number of extensions.

One thing we recently used the Planex to do was strip wall paper off of drywall.  It worked really well and we didn't use many abrasives. It was a lot cleaner than the old way of using DIF and scraping.

Thanks for the replies. This is a lot of help. I would buy an extra extension and soft pad, but skip the harness, for now. The job we are currently doing is meshing and skim coat 2- 10' ceilings, about 550 sqft total. Plus, 3 big closets, ceilings and walls.
Most of our jobs are just kitchen and bath remodels and small additions. A lot of the time I can't use my Porter Cable type sander, because there just isn't enough room to maneuver in smaller bathrooms and such. I still have to deside if I really want to part with that much money. Thanks

I have seen the Planex in action with the special  (so to speak) CT36AC vac. The dust collection is really amazing. There does seem to be a learning curve on  using the sander but from what I have seen it almost makes me want to do drywall.

Remember the 30 day deal too, not sure how that would apply to the extra extension and other accessories though.
