Hi,
Welcome to the FOG.
I recently used Platin 2 1000 and 2000 pads when I was finishing my sideboard top. I was trying something a little different and it worked out well. I sanded like usual to 320 grit, then gave the top a wash coat of shellac. Then I came back with Platin 1000, but WITHOUT using dust collection. I wanted the very fine dust to stay on the surface, so that I could work it into the open pores with another couple of coats of shellac. Then I levelled it with Platin 2. As Brice said, you can use rotex mode, but I actually used my ETS 125.
There was very little dust at this point, but I continued with shellac, through the French polishing stages, before adding a wax. I buffed this with the Rotex and a sheepskin pad.
Here is the result. Very glossy and very smooth to the touch.

Hope this helps.
