played around with some new Festools on a demo...

Well then Friday there was a demo/special offers day at my hardwarestore.  Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, Hitachi, Fein, Spit/Paslode and of course Festool all had there demotruck or trailer parked up front, there were some beers and french fries, and a 5% discount on everything, so yes it was fun.

Festool had there not so new MFT/3 with them but also some more interesting stuff:

- vacuumclamp: it's powerful, and engaged automatically when a workpiece is pressed against, the footpedal is for disengaging, didn't ask if you could choose to engage/disengage with the footpedal.

- T12+3 and T15+3: there light, very light, there powerful, the torque control is at the back on the underside with a big dumpscrew, easy to use one handed.  There is a switch to choose between speed 1 and 2, and a switch to choose between driver and drill mode.  In drill mode to torquecontrol is not active.  They will work with the old battery's, the charger will charge the old battery's, but the new battery's will not work on the old machine's.  There will not be a new C12 with Li-Ion battery's, according to the Festool representative.

- There was a new Centrotec-set on display, with HSS metal drills up to 10mm, the drills where placed in a metal cardridge.  There was a little ring included to put one the long driver-bits and is was magnetic to hold a screw, up to 1 kilogram  according to the information provided.  This gives you an indication of how powerful the new drill/drivers are...    ;D

That's about it, just one other, non-festool, thing worth mentioning:

Fein will be releasing a new Supercut next year, with quick-change.  The Fein representative could/would not say if the new Supercut would then use the same accessories as the Multimaster (now they have different holes).

And, did you get any new toys?
I just missed the demo of the vac sys a while ago at one of my dealers, the festool person didn't have the lithium ion drills yet (was about 2 months ago,not sure). I did have a nice chat with him, he recommended getting the 36mm non AS hose for my kapex, and he told me how I could send my 5 year old CS70 in for a tune up.
The li-ion drills, do they come in a similar systainer as the new protool drills? (I saw some pics of the systainers with storage space built into the lid that looked pretty cool).
The magnet thing would that be compatible with non festool bits? It sounds usefull in conjunction with the impact driver bits; with the bigger screws I prefer to use longer bits that go straight into the driver's chuck instead of using a magnetic bitholder (alltough the wera bitholders I changed to seem to be able to handle the pounding better)

Did he say why you should use a non AS hose?  I've been using the 36mm AS hose that came with my cleaning kit on the Kapex - it's working fine.  Just wondering why a non AS hose would be preferred?

I hate those Festool demos.  They seem to always cost me big bucks.

If I remember correctly, the last time I got my hands on one of their demo products I came home with something called a domino.

For us, at this side of the pond (read: Europe), the Kapex is already availeble for a year, so nothing new there.  Of course it was also present on the kapex-MFT.  Played around with that one many times before and up till now was able to resist it.

And to answer Frank-Jan's queqtion no I did not get any new toys...

It came up because I asked him about fitting a dustbag to the kapex for exterior use, which festool doesn't recommend. He recommended the non-AS version because he said himself that they charge way too much for the AS hose. I learned from US reviews that the AS hose is sometimes usefull, for instance if you cut stuff like Azek, off which the cut particles will build up a static charge and kling to everything.

Mettes, they hyped the kapex release in the US a lot more then they did here, they even scheduled a nationwide release on the same day (juli 1st). The expectations were very high, because it had gotten very good reviews, and the prices of 12 Inch saws of other brands, which are comparable in cost to the Kapex over here, only cost 1/3 there. When it finally arrived a lot of saws had or developed issues with the mitersetting, which would scrape and get stuck. (Kreg already had 4 different saws with the problem, and I think Mike is up to the same count, but he has a good one now)

No they come in a standard Systainer, nothing fancy like this:

I also have a CS70, what do they do when you send it in for a tune up?  I love the machine, only drawback it is to heavy to easily be carried by one person.  Not fit for dragging up, down, in and out every day, but if you have a big job where you can put it up and it can sit for a couple of days it's great and irreplaceable.
