I searched for this before posting.

I am so very tired of NEMA1 Plugit cords falling out of my CT-26

Why doesn't Festool make a NEMA 5-15P Plugity cord?
It's ridiculous.
BTW:
My CT-26 has a NEMA 5-15R but the only Festool cord that has a 5-15P is my CMS router table.
Why does it have one????

I believe this comes down to the fact that all plugit compatible tools are double insulated.  This removes the need for the ground pin found on a NEMA 5-15 cord.  Adding a ground pin (and probably a ground wire) to a cord that doesn't need one would just add bulk and reduce flexibility, introducing another unwanted problem.

The CMS table has a NEMA 5-15 cord because the switch on the table requires a ground.

Hope this helps.

Ken

(Shane feel free to correct me if my speculation is wrong here)

Ken is correct about the double insulated tools. They simply don't need a ground pin, and it's against regulations to put a 3 pin plug on a tool that doesn't need one. People might mistakenly assume the tool is grounded.

It would be easy though to make one yourself, just cut the plug off the plug-it cord and replace it with a 3 pin plug. If it's just for yourself and you have no liability issues, no one's gonna stop you.

My point isn't grounding.  I know it's properly grounded.
My point is the Plugit 2-prong plug Continually falls out of the CT-26 receptacle.
IMO There should be 3 prongs for stability.  The cord falls out.

I shouldn't have to make one or jury rig something either.

EDIT:
Dear Festool.  Please develop something that secures the plugs to your Dust Extractors.

Thanks

Luke

Did you try spreading the prongs out a little so they apply more side pressure?

More times than I can possibly count.
I also had Festool send a replacement CT receptacle.

Easy solution.  Mount a clip to the spring loaded dust plate that covers the outlet.  Clip the cord to it and plug her in... you can drag the CT around all day by that and it wont come out.

You can also drill two holes in the dust cover (which is useless for me in my shop) carefully cut between them and create sort of a figure 8 to loop the power cord through.  There is always a way...

Cheers.  Bryan.

Thanks Bryan,
Thanks sounds good and I'll look to do just that.

Now.  to be a PIA.
I would like Festool to respond with their recommended solution to this defect.
I shouldn't have to void my warranty making changes to power cords, etc.
We pay a premium for well engineered power tools and they're worth it.  This is a problem that needs to be addressed by Festool.

Thanks to [member=25476]wow[/member] I have fixed this annoying problem without modifying the CT-26.  I made a stripped down version of Wayne's "PowerTainer".  (See Video).

Mine is just a Systainer 2 with a recessed electrical box.  I used an Irwin Step Bit to drill the corner holes and the power cord hole.  I cut the rectangle out with a Carvex and cleaned up the opening with a utility knife.  I'm going to swap the receptacle for a 20A GFI.  If I have to add a velcro cord support it will be easy.

Shouting out a Huge Thank you to Wayne !!!

Kudos to you for cutting into and modding a Systainer! And excellent execution as well.

I'm honored that I could serve as inspiration for you, and I like what you came up with. In fact, I like it so much that if I ever build another PowerTainer I might try using the same boxes you used for the receptacles on the sides.

Keep coming up with these great ideas, OK?

[thumbs up]
