plunge saw square panel cutting jig

Hello,

I wanted to cut panels perfectly square but I did not had an MFT3

here's what I've come up with.

It cost me $15 and I needed just 1 hour to get it complete

It gets the job done easily.

there is a micrometric adjustment screw in case the rail is not perfectly square to the panel so it is very easy to adjust to a perfect square

here you can see the guide rail that stand against both pièces of stock.
These pièces of stok are screwed against the bottom panel.

I could see making one of these for a dedicated tracksaw 45 degree cutoff jig.  With the saw track sitting right on the material and a way of clamping the material it would be handy for wide trims.  My 12" slider quit working so I'll give this a try. Thks

here you can see the spacers.

They are useful so I can see exactly where the router bit will cut the dado.
I made one with a 8mm router bit and one with a 10mm router bit.
Theay are easy to make. Just screw a piece of mdf to a straight edge, route a dado on the mdf following the straight edge, unscrew, cut waste where the screws were and you have one spacer

[attachimg=2]Here you can see the clamp that helps the straight edge not to move when the router comes at the end of the jig panel. As soon as the router is at the end of the jig panel, it pushes against the straight edge who will move (turn) if not clamped somewhere.

Here is the stop block with another spacer: a drill bit that is 6mm diameter
If I move the drill bit away and push back the panel against the stop block I can route another 6mm of dado. It can be handy when you dont have the exact width router bit.

Hello,

I used the SFT  [smile] this week end to make a benchtop router table and it did well.

My next improvment is I am going to get rid of the micrometric adjustment screw because it is not suited to all straightedge. I have to fine tune it for the track saw and fine tune it again for the router guide because the track saw is so slim and has a kind of a recessed edge. I will lightly take some material out of the longer piece of stock with my miter saw and try to adjust it like this to a perfect square without the micrometric adjustment screw.

I'll let you know.

Anyway, looks great, especially the micro-adjustment is a great idea for optimal squareness...
 
Brilliantly simple. I'm gonna make one for my 8ft bench that has more support. Anyone wanna buy my mft!?
 
still works fine.

I did some cuttings with it and made a built in desk from solid movingui wood for the top and ready to assemble cabinets last week-end.
