I have a rather large Murphy Bed cabinet that I'll be starting on in a month or so and I'm in the process of looking at hardware for the pocket/tuck away doors.  I've looked at both the Knape and Vogt rack and pinion design  and the Accuride cable design.  Does anyone have any experience with either of these offerings?  My primary concern is the smoothness of action, cost does not matter.  Thanks in advance.

Is it fair to assume that when you are talking about pocket doors you are talking about doors that swing open and then are pushed into the cabinet?  One thing to consider is the size of the doors and the weight of the doors.  Your style is pretty ornate, so I would suspect that weight will have to be a major consideration.

I've taken the weight into consideration and the way I've designed the cabinet either the KV or Accuride products wil work.  I'm really hoping to hear from someone that has experience with either of these, or something similar.  The two sets of doors will be approx. 40" wide so long term I'm worried about racking.  I'm intrigued by KV's rack and pinion design and I don't know much about the Accuride cable system.  Where's Jon Hilgen and his high end installs when you need him?!?!?
Upscale, thanks for the links.  The customers have already selected the actual Murphy bed hardware so don't need to bother myself with finding that.  I used to live in Kitchener and Ayr, BTW, but it's been a long time since I've been back.

Russ,

The accuride cable ones are the way to go.  I've installed them on some 30 x 50 doors a couple of years ago and haven't gotten a single call back.  Just order te extra hinge set an you'll be fine.  I haven't used the kv ones because when I have seen them used I haven't been impressed with the action.  The accuride installation and adjustability are simple as well.

Great suggestions so far! Nice to have an online community to bounce ideas off!

Have any of you used Crowdertrack? http://www.kncrowder.com/

I use their products almost exclusively when I have sliding doors to make, whether they are swanky residential-style pocket/barn doors, heavy metal jail cell doors, fake elevator doors or large 10' x 4' sliding ½" glass doors. The quality is exceptional and the movement of the doors is very nice and solid feeling.

Have a good one,  [big grin]

Russell,

Found some pics of the doors I did a while back.  If I remeber correctly, the doors were made of  3/4" MDF.
