Hi Folks,

I am nearing the stage of a project where some polishing will be required and am finding it hard to locate the Festool recommended polishing system. From all the official literature online, it is suggested to use the sequence of a blue, orange and white pads with the matching compounds. However, the three stores I have visited today have no blue in stock, and a confusing array of compounds, and Festool Australia told me that the blues have been discontinued. Have there been some changes to the product system that has not been widely communicated as yet?

I will be polishing and buffing up some two pack waterborne topcoats and some PC Lacquer coated items.

Thanks for your help and advice.

FESTOOL doesn't regularly monitor all the boards of the forum, so this might have been missed.  Whereas you are in Australia your situation may be a bit different because of the semi-unique FESTOOL situation there.

It has been in the news that FESTOOL and 3M will be working together utilizing their respective strengths and perhaps what you are experiencing is ahead of that coming to Australia.

Perhaps [member=57769]TylerC[/member] has some knowledge.

In North America, the blue polishing compound (MPA 9010 BL) is still available.

Are you in Australia? I only know what's available in the US and Canada, but I can reach out to some international colleagues to see if I can get an answer for AU.

Um, as far as I know, Festool polishing compounds are not available in Canada due to labeling issues. We stock the colourful polishing pads and Mirka Polarshine finishing compounds.

I have spent days trying to find information about the Festool finishing and polishing products.  I am also wanting to finish some water based lacquer. In the end, I settled for flattening after curing with the 800 granat, I'll step up to the Platin 2 2000 and 4000 grits and then finish with the blue compound with the recommended blue pad.  This is my plan, I'll know in a few days if it works.  BTW I am told WB lacquer is easy to burn through if you have no previous experience.

It seemed to work for me, did you find what you were looking for?
