Was going to take advantage of my ROTEX 150 to do some wax finishes (Renaissance Wax) on some furniture items, and had a quick question about best practices, viz., 1) what is the best pad for applying the wax with the ROTEX, and 2) what is the best pad for buffing/polishing out?  I was looking online and it seems like there are two different options for each application, for applying you can get either the felt pad or the sponge (in several grades of fine-ness), and for the buffing you have either the lambswool or the honeycomb sponge thing.  Thanks for any advice.

Edward,

Larry Smith did a video on this.

I was a bit confused by the type of polishing compound he used in the video.  I just saw Larry in person at a local Festool demo and asked him about it.  He said that he usually uses a wax finish, but when he was asked to do the video, he didn't have the wax with him at the time.  He demonstrated the same thing for some of us at the demo, this time using some General Finishes Satin Finishing wax.  Using the RO150, he went through several grits of paper following up with Platin in finer grits up to 2000, I think.  He applied wax with the sponge and buffed it out at high speed with the lambswool bonnet.  He used a piece of inexpensive birch plywood and I was amazed at how the grain really popped with his techniques.

Hope this helps!  Mike A.
