Portable table saw

I woke today with a new tool idea ( in addition to my twelve ideas yesterday) that I would purchase from Tom today...a portable table saw. On it, I would like to see along with dust collection, an additional dado blade, miter, bevel dial, add-on table extension, blade stabilizer, piston adjustable fence (could use the same pistons that are on the kapex)

Great idea!!  The power and torque stats would have to be much higher than the current Kapex motor.  I would love to get rid of my 5HP,12" table saw to save room, but I can rip just about anything with it.

My Bosch portable sucks .
Shopping now no cms in USA ............
Mafell Erika  ?

I should clarify I have been using festools for more than thirteen years.
Just started buying mafell products in the last two years already up to seven tools.
If Bosch and Mafell and other company's sell portable saws in the USA what's going on?
I will not buy $1600 cms or two without table saw options and router table of a size for professionals . I have two of2200s
I do not post much but this  issue is changing my out look  of my most used tools in my shop
FESTOOL...........

Well, my fellow Fogger...why not go for the Erica, then? Except for the high premium, I hear nothing but positive reviews.

DeWalt has a new portable out that looks good.  It has dust collection.

Toolnuts also sells the DeWalt.

I have been holding my breath for the new Sawstop that is supposed to be in development. Right now, I am a few shades of dark blue.

Let us know what you decide to do.

Sadly, this is the precise reason I do not have a CMS in my shop now.  If mounting the OF2200 and the TS55 or TS75 were a CMS option available in NA, this would change very quickly.

You actually can mount the of2200 in the cms here in NA.  Everything you need comes with the cms.  It's great to have a powerful router mounted in the insert.  There are modules for the ts55 and 75 on eBay every now and then.  Anyone buy them shipped across the pond?  Cost?

I had an opportunity to use the TS-75 CMS insert for about a year here in Minnesota. The TS-75 part of it was great, install an appropriate blade for the task, and the saw had plenty of power. Where the TS plates falter is, unlike the CMS-OF plate that allows you to make adjustments and bit changes from above the table, the TS-plates require you to perform any and all adjustments, blade changes, etc... from underneath the table. This isn't necessarily Festool's fault, it's simply a function of mounting a handheld circular saw upside down. Depth adjustment was ok, but because of gravity PLUS the spring tension in the TS-75 wanting to retract, it could be difficult to really dial-in an accurate depth. Blade changes were a bit tedious. The deal breaker for me was setting bevels. I had to reach underneath the saw, release the front and rear locking knobs, then try to look at an upside-down bevel scale that's largely obscured, set the bevel, then try to lock the front and rear knobs without losing the bevel setting. If you're mostly just ripping stock at a zero bevel, and precision depth setting isn't a consideration, then the CMS-TS plates are a great fit, but if you need to quickly and accurately make depth or bevel adjustments you're better off looking at a Precisio or Erika saw.

At the present, the Precisio saws are NAINA, though if you do some digging there are plenty of ways to get them here. The CS50 seems like a perfect size but I worry about it being a tad underpowered. The CS70 has oodles of power, but is too large to fit in my Sprinter as I have things arranged right now.

I'm planning on picking up a Mafell Erika 70 later this year. 2200+ watts of power, 120v motor, all of the functionality of the Precisio saws, available right now in North America.

As has been stated above, I own a ton of Festool tools and appreciate every one of them, but have begun to supplement them with Mafell tools where Festool hasn't released their version in North America, where the Mafell is the superior product, or Festool simply doesn't have a comparable tool (I just got a KSS 300, LOVE IT!!).

Right now I'm using a Bosch GTS1031, it's ok for framing duties (ripping furring strips, etc....), and for cabinetry it suffices with a SHARP, high quality blade, but I'd really prefer to go with the Erika 70, just a matter of working a few extra weekends this summer to cover the premium price. BTW, for my Bosch saw, I cut the legs down so the table height matches my MFT/3 tables, making for a nice saw station!

Care to share?  I was eyeing on of their "professional" cabinet saws last weekend.  First time I've really given them a look and the build quality looked pretty good.

The Mafell Erika looks great, can't find it at Timberwolfs website, anyone know the USA price off hand?

Paul, Timberwolf Tools doesn't stock the Erika since it's not a high-volume item, they order them from Germany on an as-needed basis. From what I understand, from the order date it would take approximately 2 weeks to receive the saw. Below is a link with some ballpark pricing, add roughly $200 for shipping. You'll want to talk with Timberwolf though if you want precise costs (I think the "mafelltoolstore" website was a precursor to the Timberwolf website, but not certain).

Sawstop has been talking about making a more portable TS, the size of the Bosch and Dewalt, for a while now. Last I heard, they were shooting for a release at the end of 2014.  If they don't come through, then it would most likely be the Mafell Erica 85 for me.  I have some of their other tools already.

I spoke with David of Timberwolf Tools, yesterday, and asked about the Erica.  He told me that eventhough he's sold two to NYC, he is still trying to learn all of the different accessory configurations inorder to be a better salesperson. He thought, that with shipping and the recommended accessories, the Erica 70 would be near $4000.  [eek]

I don't know?...the Bosch has 4 Hp with a very small footprint...could go on top of the MFT. I don't know what the new DeWalt has for HP.  I have been making perfect rips with my track saw, but I admit, much slower than using a table saw.

One further question...could someone in the USA just get the CMS insert from Europe and use it with their TS 55 or 75?

Yup I did. I used my USA version of the TS 75 and bought the module fit perfect. I recommend a few accessories, the side extension table and the CS 50 fence. You will need those The photo will give you a idea of what Im talking about. With out the side extension and using the CS 50 fence it really limits your cutting capacity.

Spoke with a SawStop rep today. They're still saying maybe the end of 2014 for the new model.  [sad]

John

Good.  Looking forward to checking it out.  Any details about it's features?

^
No.  The rep I spoke with was unwilling to say much, other than, it would be about the size of the larger Bosch.
