portable thickness planers

JMB, I see that ffx.co.uk has the best price for the Metabo DH330 thicknesser at the moment at £383 - do you know if this eTailer is a reputable one? (DW733 isn't too bad either at £455)

Does the Metabo have any sort of fine adjustment scales on the depth adjustment or can you dial thicknesses easily just by looking at the front depth gauge?

Are replacement blades easy to come by and are there carbide blades available for this machine? How long do the blades last and have you tried sharpening them?

Few questions.  Few already answered by Matt.

The depth gauge is a guide only really what I have been doing is setting it to the guide depth then measure the timber and just adjust slightly.  The kinda work I use it for I don't need it to have a digital gauge giving me .00005 of a depth even though I would like one for it.  It's for me to take on site and just thickness timber down on the job.

It has a measuring device not sure what its called at the front which you place ur timber under and it will tell you how much your going to be removing. Again not that accurate just more of a guide.

I haven't bought any blades for it yet so don't know how easy they are to get hold off.

I also have not sharpened it yet either.  Blades are still cutting lol although its starting to struggle.  It's done alot! I'm surprised how long they have lasted.  Done alot of oak, cedar, redwood, birchply, MDF, tulip my mates have used it when working with me on jobs.
