Possible cabinet reface

Hey all.

I was asked by my MiL to update her cabinets. I let her know that I don't have a ton of time but would be glad to help. I have priced out several door vendors and have that mostly squared away, but am on the fence about buying it stained and finished or doing it myself (or outsource the finish work).

I got stuck at the veneer stage. I am certain I made my cut list right, but am unsure about finishing that portion.

In your opinion, is refacing worth it?  A vendor priced her at 13k and I can get all materials, stained and shipped for just over 3k. This is over 20 year old oak cabinets. They are in great shape but severely dated.

Thoughts and experiences welcome!!

Cheers. Bryan.

Any chance she'll go for a paint/solid finish?

A good sanding of the face frames, grain filler, prime and finish.

I thought of that Tom. I was hoping to get the doors raw and spray them with Pro Classic. I also was thinking of doing the grain and painting as I have done that before, and the second time should be quicker, right?

I just need to talk her out of getting maple or alder or cherry with their default stain!

Cheers. Bryan.

Good luck. If you don't have a Walzcarft account let me know, they have a complete line of reface products.

Tomorrow our youngest daughters future ex-husband is coming over to begin making the doors and drawer fronts for their kitchen. After those are ready he has to prep/sand/fill/sand the boxes for the finish. They'll be shot with KA+ White. He wants to do as much as he can on his own.

Ryan made progress today. Sized and machined all the pieces. The profile is a simple square Shaker.
