Possible interest in second run of First Aid Systainers?

The first batch of First Aid Systainers is shipping now. Nothing new will happen until the entire first run of Systainers has been delivered. But I have had so many PM's recently asking if they could buy a First Aid Systainer that I decided to start another thread.

When I started this project, I intended to offer them at no profit to me. I did just that. I also wanted a kit that YOU (and I) could be proud of. I did that, too! And I planned to ship them in about 90 days. Well - to quote Meatloaf - 2 out of 3 ain't bad, right?

[wink]

I believe that I have proven myself at this point. Posts in the 'Last Call' thread will prove or disprove that. It is completely up to the people who get them if and what to post. Check it out...

This time I intend to make a little money on these. IF I actually count my time, I won't even get minimum wage...but I might get enough to buy some more Festoys! (If you are a Festool dealer and you'd like to trade a tool for a kit, contact me. I'm sure we can work something out!)

Based on the costs involved, the retail on this kit should be $500. However, I am shooting for a target price of $400 per kit shipped to the lower 48.

The minimum number of kits that I need to have ordered to even consider this is 24 kits. .

So - moving right along...

First, I am not making any promises! This is a place to post your interest...that's all.

Second, The price will be about $400. It will not go down, but could go up a little (like maybe $25-50 at most) depending on quantity. But count on $400 if more than 24 people commit.

Third, this kit will be IDENTICAL to the one I'm shipping now.

If you previously PM'd me about this...well, pretend that you didn't and post here - PLEASE?! That way your request will get counted, and everyone will know where we're at with possibly doing a second run.

I'll leave this post active until at least the end of the month, and we'll see what happens...

Remember, I am not requesting nor accepting payment right now. I just want to judge the level of interest. So, if you even THINK you will want one (or more) POST HERE NOW. You aren't committed until I request payment, which won't be before August at the earliest.

Thanks, guys! That makes 3 out of 24 in less than 12 hours. Only 21 more to go...

BTW, I bet my wife that a dozen kits would be 'claimed' by EOD on Monday. We'll see how good a judge of opportunity I am ...

And then there were six...

[big grin]

only 18 to go!

I have had a number of people PM me about the possibility of somehow getting the price down a little. While I understand the money issue, I have some concerns about what I would take out with out compromising the quality of the kit. I WILL NOT remove any of the 'trauma' items - since that would defeat my purpose - but I thought of a few things I could pare down or eliminate:

1. Remove 'Med Box' entirely. Not excited about doing this, since I know how much I use the 'Med Box' in my trauma bag. Ironically, it's usually for someone other than me...

2. Reduce number of 'bandaids' to approximately half of what shipped in the first edition. (Not sure who coined that phrase for it, but I like it!) Not much savings - a few dollars at best.

3. Reduce Triple AntiBiotic Ointment to approximately half of what shipped in the first edition, to match reduction in 'bandaids'. Not much savings.

I haven 't crunched the numbers, but I suspect the amount of savings would be minimal - MAYBE $50 total. I am, therefore, inclined to maintain the integrity of the kit and keep it as it is.

I was also asked about selling just the latch or the Systainer?

In the same vein as above, I want everyone to know that if they see one of these kits - whether their own or someone else's - and need it, that they can be confident what is inside.

So I have to respectfully say 'No' to anyone hoping to buy just a latch or Systainer.

It looks like a great kit, that if needed,is well worth the cost.
My "vote" is to keep it the same. And to be fair, the bandaids are what's going to be used the most,so why take em out?

I would take one, actually if you could make it 2, I would like to have one in the truck always.

Count as of Tuesday morning July 22 is Ten. People whi signed up so far:

FOG ID Qty
Mdr6407 2
Slartibartfass 1
ZolnerMD 1
pettyconstruction 1
Baremeg55 1
Dan Doe 1
KDConst 1
Carman 2

And that's only in the first 48 hours. Way to go, FOGger's!!!

I just re-read this thread and noticed that I never mentioned any of the reasons - other than the obvious one - that I considered possibly doing a second run. SO here goes:

1. Many FOG'gers asked for it. That's good enough - but there's more.

2. The printer still has the artwork for the printing.

3.  and the skilled person who knows how to do the printing.

4. All of the supplies are still available to be ordered, EXACTLY as contained in the first edition.

5. That includes (I just found out yesterday) the Med Box organizer that goes inside the First Aid Systainer. It is CRITICAL because of how it fits. You'll understand more when you get your First Aid Systainer, but trust me that it couldn't be more perfect!

6. I have a system for building them that is fresh in my mind.

And finally:

7. It might help me get another Festoy. Or two. Or...you get the idea.

Also know that it is highly unlikely that there will ever be another run beyond this one.

On the other hand, you might be able to consider your First Aid Systainer both an asset and a good investment. If you had to sell yours, it may end up bringing more money down the road than you paid?!

Anyway, the short version is still "if you think you might EVER want one, get on the list now!"

In regard to selling the systainers only, as the producer you have the absolute right to sell or not as you see fit. However, your reasoning is basically unrealistic. I doubt that you plan to contact every buyer once a week to see if they have used any supplies and if they have to insist that they restock immediately. Hopefully people that will pay that much for a first aid kit will keep it stocked, but you have no way of knowing. Even non expendable items such as scissors might be removed and not replaced.

I would be interested in one kit. Would that $400 include shipping to Canada?

$400 includes shipping to the lower 48. Shipping to CA is just $25 more.
