Potential Clamping Elements Alternative

I just received an email blast from Rockler this morning.  They have a new clamp that could, with some modification, be a nice alternative to a Festool clamping elements.

The clamp is designed to interface with Rockler's new T-Track Table Top system.  It looks like the T-Track bolt could be replaced by a 20mm post but I don't live anywhere near a Rockler store to check one out.  I have emailed Rockler suggesting they offer a 20mm post option. 

The adjustable clamping force offered on these clamps is a nice feature.

Looks nice, but isnt it almost as expensive as the Festool ones? The price is 29.99$/each and then you need some kind of dog on the mating side.

I guess that it would be nice to work with a T-track system to clamp against a fence or something like that though...

Looks promising. They have a 2 pack for $49. I wonder if the t bolt could be removed and a stud and shoulder less dog could be added.

I wonder if they open / close more smoothly than the Festools as mine stick quite a bit.

If you are working near the edge of the MFT it looks like they may be a great match to the kapex crown stops shown in kapex extension wings on MFT3

I have two of the Rockler clamps.  I have a Veritas style workbench with 3/4" dog holes.  I was able to drill a hole through the center of a 3/4" dowel and screw it into the bottom of the Rockler clamps with a 5/16" bolt - now the Rockler clamps work great in my bench dog holes.  If you can turn a 20 mm dowel, or find some other 20 mm diameter cylindrical item, you could easily adapt the Rockler clamps to fit your MFT.

ARMOR-TOOL.COM has an auto-lock clamp available with 20mm ribbed metal posts, perfect for the MFT. It appears Armor-Tool is the patent holder for the Rockler Auto-Lock clamps as both clamps look identical.  The difference is that Armor-Tool offers the post type clamp suitable for dog holes whereas the Rockler clamp is specifically for T-track mounting. Armor-Tool has a couple of other clamp styles which also have 20mm metal posts suitable for the MFT.  Check it out: http://armor-tool.com

Festool clamping elements are useful because they are low profile. You may not need that feature, but it is nice when you do.

well, I made some rockler type clamping elements shown as following.

I tap 5/16" screw thread to have regular bolt.

Just a reminder, because they are not designed for bench dog so the accuracy is a litttle bit low compare with Precision Dog. But for me, it's good enough and you cannot beat the price.

Yesterday, I sent an email to Bill Fudale of Armor-Tool asking if I could place an order for two of their auto lock dog clamps and one of their dog fences.  Bill called me back a couple of hours later and we had a very enjoyable and quite extensive conversation about new products they have coming out and how their products will be available for purchase.  It turns out that they have entered into marketing agreements with Woodcraft and Rockler and Armor-Tool should be sending out their first shipments in the next few weeks.  So we should be seeing their products available from these retailers soon.  Amor-Tool is currently in negotiations with other vendors as well.  Bill was kind enough to allow me to place an order directly with him, but once his vendors start selling his products, that will no longer be the case - as they obviously don't want to compete with their marketing partners. Bill was genuinely excited about new products they have in their pipeline, but didn't reveal specific information about them to me. Bill was a pleasure to talk to and I'm looking forward to receiving my shipment from him.
