Pre-owned or second hand is not necessarily all good

I got a fairly good deal on a pre-owned TS 75.
Photos looked good, apart from saw dust (Good idea to clean the tools before showing off, if you got nothing to hide). The guy even told me he had put in a new blade recently. That’s a good point, considering the cost of a new blade on a used saw.

Not quite..
DeWalt is nice, but maybe not in a Festool that requires a smaller blade..:

The rest did clean up very well, it had lived most of it’s life under a TS 75 CMS module.
Spares needed to be ordered: Blade, thumb screw and bolt for front bevel adjuster (totally missing..), nearly the side cover (if I was to be picky) and the end stop and another bolt missing.
If it was to order it all it far exceeds $200 in parts.
Luckily the rest looked very good after a clean up:

I agree Alex, but sometimes finds are scarce, as this one and it would be a 8 hour drive - one way [huh]
Usually “a gentleman’s agreement” is sufficient. I do practice pick up as far as possible, even fairly long trips. All photos did look favourable, I missed the blade, obviously, but also the missing bolt(s).

But do ask the questions that are maybe the last you would think of. Such as; is it serviced with the correct parts? I did find some bolts and knobs that are doing the same job until I get FT original (for looks and authenticity that is)

I don’t really buy used power tools, mainly because of the risk the OP has experienced. Even buying face to face is no guarantee either.
The other reason is, I buy our tools new, and claim the tax relief as a business.

I get a lot of my stuff used, shipped across the country. I guess I'm just lucky. An OF 1010 arrived via eBay. It's an older metric one, 2012, and had seen some use but the body was clean just wood dust build up all over the moving pieces. Plunge return wasn't working too well so I cleaned the rods up with air tool oil and it's like new.

You can usually tell by the seller pics if it was cared for or abused. The first red flag to me is if the systainer is in rough shape.

If it's a tool I plan on using a lot then I'll sometimes spring for new to get the warranty. Or find one with a year or more left as the warranty goes with the tool, regardless of owner.

I have had an exceptional purchasing record from the classifieds on FOG. Did they buyer get the item from there or somewhere else.

whats damaged in pic 2 and 3? all i see is blade guard is 'modded' now to accept dewalt blades :D

edit: nvm i read it its missing parts only

ignoring the blade cause that's arguably unknown for any used saw - and the cover which is clearly functional - it's just thumb screw and bolt for front bevel adjuster ? looks like a good deal to me

That's too bad. How the heck did he get the cover on with the oversized blade?

Is PayPal your friend for damage like this?

I totally agree. As a matter of fact I also just picked up an OF 1010 for $100. It’s just sticky columns as well. I went to the seller, and saw a very cared for tool, as well as it’s original systainer with almost no marks, all from 2004. I also tested it to verify operation. Systainer looks tell a lot yes. This is my observation as well.
There are few Festool’s I’ve bought pre-owned. This TS 75 was not a high priority tool, as it will live in a module for the most of the time. At a cost of near half price of a new one, I took the gamble. It is more what seller says, and what is not corresponding to reality when receiving. (Along with optimistic packaging 🙄)

Blade slides in just, but I suspect from the damage on the inside it wouldn’t start fully retracted, so he must have started it slightly plunged.

We do not usually use PayPal, more like Apple Pay’ish only in a native app.
PayPay didn’t get it well to our market, and is very little used.

No, it’s not from anyone here on the forum, it was a local domestic seller.
I see here that post in the classified section looks very good, so did also the ad for my saw.

Last time I bought from a club and forum member in a forum I was long time member of was a classic Tamiya RC car. It was a Swiss seller, and I urged him to remove the mirrors from the body, and put them in a zip lock bag inside the box and wrap the car extremely well.
I was just incredibly lucky: He had taken a toilet roll and just spun it around the car and placed the car in a little too roomy box.. jeez.. [scared] with the mirrors in place on the body of course [eek] one was broken, the other half broken. To top it all, he claimed chassis was all new (showed like new in photos) but he had then exchanged the propeller shaft with a worn out rusty one, nice! [mad]
Actually that was the two only things that got wrong on it’s long journey, so I was lucky.
Off course, he didn’t answer my messages. Another bad story happened some time later and I understand those who cares for their tools and buy new. But, most are solid sellers and like DynaGlide I scrutinise photos for condition and how the seller describes their item.
