Precision Routing

I just had a need to do some precise V grooves in a table top.

I set up my 1400 router, and didn't like the side to side play using the rail guides,
as the groove had to be very, very precise, with no play whatsoever.

The guide blocks don't have calibration wheels like the TS-55 has in order to eliminate side to side play.

After doing a little experimenting, I used the 2 guide blocks, together, on the 2 bosses of the guide rail,
and used the calibration wheel, which was between the blocks, to dial out all of the play.

It worked great.

Beautiful V grooves, and as straight and defined as a laser beam.

Rather than "calibration wheels" there are two screws on the part of the guide stop that hooks onto the rail bring the guide stop into alignment/tightness with the guide rail.

As Timmy C mentioned, there are backlash adjusters on the back of each of the guide rail adapters.  If you adjust them both to remove slop, once you tighten the knobs on the router and those rails, I find that there is almost no noticeable deflection.

Thank you for all of the replies.

The manual is truly much improved.

Looks like I inadvertently used the alternate method of using the guide blocks, on page 20.

And here I thought that I'd made a discovery!

Silly me  :)
