Price Increases in Canada

Just got word of a US increase. Can someone please say exactly what the listed tools were in CAD.. Im feeling sick looking at those prices having just gotten into all of this.. I absolutely could not afford the tools at that point. Like.. I cant now.. But I had been doing it anyway

I calculated the average change to be a 3.6% increase in the U.S..

There was a Canadian price decrease a few years ago when the CDA had been hovering near par with USD and it was a pretty decent price drop.

I have often wondered what percentage of Festool sales are to hobbyists vs professionals. Especially for the hobbyists there comes a point where one says, No, I am not paying that much for a Kapex even if I can afford it. It seems to me that a Canadian price of over $2000 (with tax) could hit that point. The value proposition or whatever one uses to justify the purchase gets overwhelmed by the feeling that one is being taken advantage of in the pricing scheme.

Based on some of the comments above, professionals are having a hard time making the business case.

The dewalt is a very robust and accurate saw Imo,...
As a professional using my new festools over the last few weeks, months had been worth every penny I'm afraid. Buy it because you Need it not because you want it.
I just happen to be at the low ebb if a 5 year tool cycle, ie. all my stuff was wearing out.
As I've now spent 10k or so to retool festyle, I really hope they are tough as advertised, I will be using them 6.5 days a week. Only time will tell.

Try the Kapex for the 30 days.  Bet you won't go back.

I agree overpriced.    I have owned Dewalt Miter Saw for a 8yrs and they work great and accurate.  It rides in the back of my truck and gets beat up and its still accurate.  I admit Dewalt Service stinks.  I did put a Bosch CM12 dust shoot on it and now dust collection is 80-90%.  My next Miter Saw will be a Bosch.

I've got a good selection of Festool also and can see both sides of the "are they worth it argument".

Is a Festool tool 2-3 times better than a Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee etc...?  From a practical standpoint I doubt it. What I mean is that I doubt that it cost 2- 3 times as much for Festool to manufacture any given tool compared to the other companies pro tools. This is what is causing so many to become irate as Festool annually bumps up their prices.

In this regard I think Festool is doing a brilliant job of making a noticeably better tool, develping a "system approach" to all their tools and then charging a premium for anybody who wants to buy in. I think of luxury cars, high end appliances and other similar luxuries.

I've bought in, with no regrets, because I like good equipment and I am willing to pay for it (up to a point) but I also don't pretend that the quality difference is equal/justified by the price difference. Like so many others have said, buy Festool or don't buy Festool no one is forcing anyone.
