So, your a Festool dealer and your selling it above $99.00 MSRP??!!

Ok, I thought I couldn't get much hotter than when I was waxing my car in August. I am amazed that a huge dealer doesn't have these accounted for already, but that ain't my business. I know most dealers have only gotten a fraction - and a small fraction at that, of their preorders and have our loyal customers waiting patiently.
But to grab a bunch and jack up the price - just because they are in demand - that is not in keeping with whatever the heck the spirit was in this promotion. Don't tell me about supply and demand, it simply isn't the right thing to do. Yeah, it's only 10 bucks, but IMHO, that's not the point.  Yeah, I'll call them out on this - this is not good customer service, not as I see it anyhow. In fact, it's terrible customer service.

That 10.00 is ebay fees, I get that. On the website when they did show them they were listed 99.99

I agree with Bob.  Dealers aren't allowed to do things outside the rules festool stipulates, but CPO pulls this, Festool should buy them and take away CPO's dealer card.  This is a really bad optic, Festool messed up this promotion from the beginning by not understanding the demand this created, but a dealer marking up price the day after release is wrong.

No other Festools that they sell are marked up, though. Not that I see. I was going to mention eBay fees as well, but the difference doesn't compute.

Thanks, but if a dealer chooses to sell above listed price, they can without breakin' the rules. But only the not so savvy buyer would pay more than list price. So for mainstream dealers its not in their own self interest to sell above list.

I believe the spirit of this promotion went out the window a while ago when demand way out numbered supply.

As for CPO selling them on Ebay, one buyer bought 10 of them.

I do not think that a Festool Dealer should list above the MSRP, with that said, CPO didn't do any pre orders, so they got what they got from Festool and blasted it out there. I don't think that its a crime for someone to pay more, that's their business and like Bob said maybe they are not savvy or maybe they just want one and who cares about 10 bucks, the owness is on the dealers not consumers. If there are no Pro 5's available 2 weeks before Christmas and demand is high, I'm not above putting one on here or ebay for more than msrp, because if I was smart enough or had the foresight as a individual to buy something for x and sell it for z that's my business and Festool dealers have to make $ too, right Bob, I mean your not selling the stuff for free!?

kind of odd for this dealer to charge $10 over retail considering the size of the dealer and all the brands they carry... either way, it seems they didn't offer pre-orders and decided to make a bigger profit.  At the size of this dealer, I don't think they really care about customer service which is why I have never bought Festool from them.

I got an email from a dealer the middle of October on the Pro 5 sander. They were selling them for $138, but they were including 60 sanding discs on top of the sample pack.  If you bought it in a package, it was $99, but you did not get the 60 sheets of paper.

My issue is with the dealer, but this is not illegal, just not a way I would ever conduct my business. And as regards making money on this sander, well I'm not opening up my books - not much more than a few pesos profit after shipping, BUT that's what a loss leader is all about.

This promo was fraught with errors and miscalculations from the get go. Most dealers have acted in good faith; because of scarcity, I emailed my customers  who were in the initial que and who ordered more than one sander and notified them that in the interest of just plain old fairness, I would be limiting them to one sander. If and when, Festool would be able to fulfill all the preorders, they would get their second sander. All agreed. That's class.

There's nothing illegal about buying a bunch of sanders and reselling for higher prices, some would say its free enterprise - which it is and some would say its price gouging - which it is.  IMHO, something need not be illegal to be wrong or simply unfair. It certainly was not in the spirit of the promotion, nor Festool's intention, to have dealers or customers engage in this practice.
Sometimes however, it seems things like this don't always bring out the best in some.

Now they have 10 more available, for $119.99:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Festool-PRO-5-LTD-5-Random-Orbital-Sander-201234-new-/332021416361?

Also, I don't see any mention of the $50.00 voucher, so BUYER BEWARE

Interesting that they are selling it as "new" condition:

Ebay definition:

Condition:
New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.

Yet, there is no mention of the $50.00 voucher, which is included in the unopened and new product.

BUYER BEWARE........NO $50.00 VOUCHER MENTIONED

I guess I don't understand the angst over the sanders ending up on the aftermarket. It was about as obvious a result as could be expected. Low hanging fruit gets picked.

And cars left unlocked and/or windows opened, have a greater chance of getting stolen. Doesn't make it any less wrong. I'm exaggerating to make a point. Just because the opportunity is there, I'd like to think people would listen to their better angels.
