Okay so I bought hardwood samples of 4 different species I thought the wife would like and made her choose her favorite, which happened to be black Limba.

Then I ordered a bunch, with the goal of replacing store-bought things in the house over time with hand built ones for fun, and to make our home look more “together” as they would come from same species.

First time working with this wood, it’s cool!

Matt - you continue to have problems with photos.

Curious what phone are you using?  And what orientation are you holding it when taking the pics.

Would be happy to help if I can.  Your work is too good to require me to turn my computer sideways to enjoy it!

[member=167]neilc[/member] you are too kind! Okay, here is what I'm doing:

1) I am using an iPhone 11 Pro Max
2) I am taking pictures in portrait mode, every time (essentially just taking the phone out of my pocket and snapping a pic)
3) I upload the photos to the site directly from Safari on my phone (not through my computer)
4) I usually upload them as "Medium" or "Large" so that they aren't as large (normally they're like 6MB)

That's all I am doing! Maybe there's a magic trick, not sure!

Matt

OK - I use an iPhone 11 Pro and previously other iPhone models.

I always let my photos sync to Photos app on my mac via the cloud and then select from there to download to the desktop of the mac and attach the photos that way.  Never have any issues like what you are having.

I am using the Tapatalk App on the iPhone right now.  Here’s a portrait upload...

That also worked!  And it's easier to view than the FOG site via mobile Safari.  I use the free version and have across several forums for the past five plus years.  Great way to follow forums or subforums you are most interested in.

Give it a try -

PS - I'm wondering if you are browsing the FOG site in landscape mode on the phone and then selecting the photos you want to upload?  That could explain why your photos are rotated 90 degrees maybe?

The steps I use that seems to work for me is to use Photos to export the photo as "Medium".  Keeping it to Medium seems to help to keep it in its original orientation.  Here is a picture of the legs for a coffee table I am working on.

Hope this helps.

It's a very nice looking wood, but black limba can trigger severe allergies in some people.  See the wood database for more info:
https://www.wood-database.com/limba/

If you have any issues with black limba, you might want to check out Shedua/Ovangkol which has a similar look without as many health risks.

Beware that sometimes allergies to specific woods are delayed.  My son used mesquite often without any issues, then one day he broke out in a skin rash when cutting it, and has ever since.  He can work it with proper dust collection and clothing that covers his skin.  I've had a similar experience with African mahogany and sinuses.

Since this is a Festool forum, I should note that sanding and routing with Festool tools and dust extractor has pretty much solved the problem for me.  I've also been using hand tools more often, and I've not had any problems with those.  For most health issues with wood, it's the fine dust that does the damage.  Some woods should avoided altogether, like Yew, Oleander, and Tambootie.  The wood database is a great source of health information about different wood species.
