All,

This is not a full review but just initial impressions. I have been a customer of RTS for a long time and had been eyeing this boom arm since Rick first started posting about it in the early days of development. Since Rick and I had good history I wasn't put off by the posts from the unhappy Promethius customer on this forum a while back. I ordered the 8' version and was able to get it installed Saturday. I took pictures of the box, contents, and installed to post here for other potential RTS customers to see. I am very satisfied with the product and expect years of quality service from it. It moves silky smooth!! Anyone have any questions fire away.

Jack

Nice job Jack. I was just about to email you this morning to see if you got it mounted yet.  [poke]

I think that one thing that should be pointed out is that when you sent me pictures of where you wanted to mount it, I noticed the tight clearance between the top of your window and the low ceiling lights. After getting some measurements from you, I modified the position of the welded tabs on the wall bracket to make sure the boom arm cleared your lights without obstructing the window opening. It appears to fit perfectly.  [thumbs up]

The funny thing about that "disgruntled" posting, is that I got a spike in new orders because of it. It kind of backfired from his original intent.  [popcorn] Another RM-120 is shipping out in the morning.  [cool]

Oh, I'd like some feedback on this. I actually dampen the rotation slightly so the boom arm stays where you move it to. Otherwise it would be "too smooth". I finally located some felt rings that should work better than my previous method. It's a fine line between too much and too little dampening. So I've got these felt dampeners on 2 of the 4 pivot bearings. Is that enough, or should I be putting them on all 4 bearings?

I totally agree with Jack.
My also moves very smoothly and stays put.
In fact I’m using in’s right now, just taking a five minute break.
Currently building a mobile cart for the vac system.
Thanks again Rick for a great product!
Rick

Thanks, RJNeal (Rick). Yours was the first one built with the new dampeners. So I'm glad to hear I got it right the first time.

Felt washers to dampen motion, is the felt sandwiched between steel washers?
No, that wouldn't dampen any motion. They are acting on the knuckle plates.  Oh, I see where you might be going....There is a steel washer in their center so the pivot itself isn't acting on felt.

Rick,

Great that you mentioned the damping. In fact my only thought of improvement would be a little less free movement so I think felt on all four might be best. Mine moves very easily but continues to rotate slightly after pressure is removed.

The clearance of my lights is spot on! Just the right amount.

Thanks Rick!!
