Pros/Cons of TS55 cordless vs corded

Hi all, brand new guy here so I apologize if this question has been asked a billion times. I will be placing an order for a TS-55 but am not sure if there is any particular downside or upside to either the corded vs the cordless model (other than not tripping on the cord).

At the moment I will only be using the TS-55 for box making & shelf building & I only have a small "workshop" that is about 11'x5' (i.e. my balcony). My 2 major concerns are any differences in power & noise levels between the coded & cordless models.

But any advice is welcome.

Thank you so much!

Power is fine on the cordless. If you don't have a dust collector get the cordless.

My first impression of the TSC 55. Still really like the saw.

As Tom said, there's no compromise in power.  I cut 8/4 lumber with my TSC55 no problem.  And it's just really nice to not have to worry about cords and hoses.  Keep in mind though that the batteries don't last all that long, so if you plan on extended cutting sessions you might want to get an extra set of batteries.

Technically the cordless model is more powerful than the corded. You can cut a least 300' of 3/4" ply on a set of 5.2Ah batteries as shown in this cool video.

Hi!

Once you experienced the freedom of cordless you'll have a hard time adjusting back to anything with a cord ;) Makes life so much easier.

And since you can run the TSC either with one 18V or two 18V (=36V) batteries depending on your chores you always have a choice between maximum power and lighter weight.

Kind regards,
Oliver

IMO part of the question is "What kind of convenience do you want?"

Corded: You get the convenience of never changing batteries and changing/emptying bags less often.
Cordless: You get the convenience of better portability and not having to worry about plugs, outlets, etc.

Since you're mostly in a workshop, the corded is where I'd go.

I have corded saw with 7m long Plug it cable and no problem. Today is possible to buy 10m, so thats way i would go.

I would go corded first. As It is the reference standard as far as plunge saws go

The 18v is good if you are going to buy into the system

The cordless unit isn't appropriate for the CMS TS55 module.

If you're going to be doing a lot of cutting, you'll need to keep a rotation of 4 batteries ready to use.

There is a minor weight factor that could be a concern to some.

The dust bag on the TSC does a great job, but obviously requires frequent emptying.

Personally I really like it.

I recently switched over to the TSC from the TS and I'm happy with the move. I sold my TS to my father and with my lack of space the cordless has been very convenient. As states before, the collection bag is very nice, so much so that my father will be purchasing one for the TS. When I need to I hook up the TSC to my MIDI and remembering to flip the on switch hasn't been an issue. I had two 3ah 14v batteries as well as four 5ah 18v batteries already from my PDC so runtime also isn't an issue for me.

That being said, it may be more practical to go corded if you don't already have batteries as you should have two sets for the TSC.

Thank you so much everyone for all the opinions. As soon as I place my order & get my product I'll be back with news :)

The video of them cutting the 300ft or yards is abit unrealistic as its done on the edge of the material with no biting of the sheet going on. As my tsc55 is amazing but when the sheet starts to close up on your cut you can find it groaning abit power wise but as long as you keep your blades sharp shouldn't be a issue ! It is my go to roll for ripping down stuff aftwr my hkc55, cordless won't automatically switch on the dust extractor though and trust me having to manually turn it on starts to wear abit thin after a while !

Hmmmm looks like the HKC-55 line of saws is not available in the U.S. & no pricing or release info either  [scared] [eek]

TylerC (From Festool USA) posted this on a different thread on March 23, 2016

"The HK and HKC will be coming to North America this fall. More details this summer."http://festoolownersgroup.com/ask-festool/hkc-release-dtae-stateside/

I know these are being demoed at the Festool Road Show currently in N America
