Protool Drills - Any good?

As above please, and where are they made??  Germany?  I am getting increasingly cheesed off as so called 'good' quality companies are using their German name yet the actual drills are being manufactured in elsewhere (some Bosch pro drills say 'Bosch Germany' on them but aren't made in Germany, but Malaysia - sucks).

Hilti are now made in china much to my disappointment, even some metabo stuff isn't made in germany.  Basically I want a decent hammer drill that's made in germany/europe/ or america, no chinese junk.  Hence why I love festool but I need a hammer drill for masonry but Festool don't do one asaik?

The Protool drills are made in Wendlingen, Germany, and they're of excellent quality. In fact, the Protool PDC 18-4 Tec-Li is regarded as THE best drill by many.

if you want a decent hammer drill then get a cordless sds you will never look back. I dont care where stuff is made aslong as it is made well which is down to the specification not location it is made. Look at apple products all made in china.

Hilti are good even if made in China and are half made by panasonic (hilti-panasonic manufacturing plant)

I know about Apple, they really annoy me actually, marketing it as designed in Cali (big deal) yet knocked up in China and making trillions in profit.  The US government should force them to manufacture their products in the USA to boost the economy and provide work for people, instead they're exploiting the Chinese and screwing us the consumer and making a ridiculous profit margin.  Anyway rant over!

It's more a matter of principle than anything else.  I always try to buy stuff that's made in the UK or Europe, or failing that, Japan.

While this is true of almost everyone, it is the one thing I dont like about Apple.  And now China has made the solar panel business not viable for US companies (who used to be the world leader less than five years ago).  When did the US get so stupid that we gave everything to these people, and now that we showed them about modern technology, they are screwing us with it?  I also just found out that apple juice that is fed to our children is made in China.  God help us.

I have been buying Protool tools for over 10 years.
I will clarify a few things for you.

The Protool electric power tools are 100 percent manufactured in Czech Republic.
I was informed many years ago that all the components of Protool tools are designed by Festool Germany.
These components are then sent to Czech Republic where they are put together.
I assume this is to save on labour costs.

The Protool lithium-ion cordless range which has been available for 3 - 4 years is 100 percent designed and manufactured in Wendlingen and Nedlingen, Germany.

Regardless of where the components are put together, the Protool electric tools are awesome constructions tools.
I have been slowly upgrading all of my power tools to Protool as they also work seamlessly within the Festool system.
(Guide rails and dust extraction.)

I used to try and support my local economy too. Purchasing more expensive hand tools from local manufacturers.
But because of poor service and astronomical prices, I now purchase all of my hand tools from amazon.com.

  My Protool chp26 SDS recently stopped working -it's only 9 months old!I was a little surprised  [blink].

The good news is that Protool repaired it.It took one month exactly.

What did I do for a month?Well I got out my tired old Makita!It's taken a lot of abuse over the years but seems  to be bullet proof.

I like the Protool but I have to say I was a little dissapointed when it failed so quickly.

i am serious. I use a cordless most of the time(24v hilti) so i might get 1 while they are on offer. Just replace my dewalt that i dropped and stopped working

  Well you would save about 110 quid on what I paid.Almost 2 for the price!I reckon it's the same internals 800w/3,2 joules for all these drills and  made by Kress.

The only other thing that does alarm me with those similarities pointed out above, is that how we know the internals do differ, and we're not being mugged off and paying for the name alone?  [scratch chin]

Also while we're discussing the country of origin thing, my DIY Bosch drill is made in Hungary, the Pro one i've been considering is made in Malaysia, and i'm sure my Dad's older one is made in Germany!! WTF?

i was told years ago the wickes stuff was all rebranded trade stuff but it never looked like owt i knew but never thought about tools we dont get over here
