I have the domino xl700 and was looking for smaller cutters. Does anyone know if the 8mm is the smallest you can go with this one? It looks like there are smaller ones but they don't say xl so I wasn't sure if they were only for the 500. Thanks for any info!

The DF 500 has 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm cutters.

The DF 700 has 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm cutters.

The founder of the Domiplate (Seneca) has a 6 mm routerbit for the Domino XL.
Look at http://www.senecawoodworking.com/products/6mm-cutter-for-domino-xl
Sorry for the large picture. I still find it hard to do the same things on an iPad as on a pc.

I purchased one, have yet to try it.  It is not cheap at $85 but again, custom part and well engineered.

Is there a real need for a 5mm bit?  Would it not be better to stick with the 2mm increments that the IX700 does now. They start at 8mm upwards to 14mm. You have cut a 5/6 bit and now may introduce a 4, 5 and 6mm bits.  I just wonder how often I would use the 5mm over the 4mm or 6mm for use in 12mm product where I would likely use those?

Thoughts and comments?

The cost per?

What would a reasonable price be considering you get two machines for the price of one?   [big grin]

More than 2 machines in one, the extra depth will allow me to cut through mortises like the one shown here with my DF 700 extra plunge depth.

Even bigger grin...

The 6mm bit is listed at 85 now. I'm then assuming the others will be in then same range. If I can have a 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 bit range that should cover the gauntlet of options for $170 above what i paid for the df700 then I'm happy.

What is your opinion on the 5mm bit?

Probably slightly less $$.

In furniture, cabinets and other projects I rarely use 5mm tenons, your requirements may vary.

A wise old Festool instruction manual writing Guru once suggested sizing your tenons about 1/3 the work piece thickness.

Tom a slightly different question -  do the Sipo tenon sticks come in exact widths to fit both of the width settings on the XL 700?
