Question about mounting doors

Hey FOG members. I recently had a customer show up with a picture of a cabinet Sam Maloof had made (i attached the picture) and wanted me to use that idea to build a gun cabinet. I told them right away it would be no problem and in a week it would be done. Then I looked at the doors and started wondering how the %$@* he mounted them. The doors are inset 3/4" or so into the carcass. The first thing that came to mind was bifold door hinges like for closets or knife hinges. Then I remembered this site and that there are probably 100's of people out there that know more about this than me. So if anyone has any ideas I would be more than thankful if you shared them.

Many thanks

I've never done this, but looking in my blum catalog it shows " inset blind corner hinges".  It seems like to achieve your "set back" inset doors you could place a pad between the mounting plate and the back of the frame to recess the door.It is a 95* hinge though which could cause an issue with the door contacting the front edge of the vertical side depending on how far the vertical extends beyond the face of the door when closed?  The part # is 79B9550.  Maybe you can see the installation illustration that I'm looking at to see if this would work for you with a web search?  They have sooo many styles for crazy applications you'd be amazed!

Looking closer at the cabinet pic i would think any euro style 90* or less hinge would work.  How far recessed the inset door is is dictated by where you mount the hinge on the inside of the cabinet.  part#71T9750.
GOOD LUCK!  I'd like to know what works out for you

Though I rather doubt that Mr Maloof was using cup hinges, I'm sure that you could do so. Blum makes a "limiter" - it's a small plastic piece that slips behind hinge cup and restricts range on the hinges. You'll probably use full crank hinges; if you use straight arm hinges you'll need 18mm mounting plates.
