Hello everyone and Happy Holidays.

Wish you all the best for the New Year for you and your family.

What is the height of the Kapex KS 120 Sliding Compound Miter Saw when its closed and ready for storage?

Would the Kapex KS 120 Sliding Compound Miter Saw work with all of the sizes of the ledgers for building a deck?

Any pros and cons in reference to the saw would be appreciated.  Should I consider the new Bosch

The Kapex is about 19 1/2" in the stored position, cuts up 12" at 90 degrees.  I think you should look at all of the saws on the market to find the best value for you.  The Kapex is a great saw but at $1200 its not for everyone.

I agree.  Frankly you should take a look at the new Bosch glide miter saw.  The glide mechanism is smoother than any rails system and it can't get saw dust in it.  The down side is that it has problems with molding larger than 6" and it is heavy.  The Milwaukee, and Jet are also worth a look.  These are all big heavy saws although the Bosch is more compact than the others.

My budget is up to $1500.  I think that the Bosch is about $800- 1200.  I am taking into consideration the features and the reliability and long term investment for me.  Thank you for responding I really appreciate the response.

I had purchased the Rigid 12" csms when they have the promotion of the free Rigid
mobile base for it, a $180 value for the price of the saw. Great deal when the have that promotion.
It's a great saw for decking, siding, framing. Large deck for laying out boards, easier to carry than some due to
handle placement, but heavy. Not a problem on the mobile station. Come apart easy and moves well in pickup, really nice
when I had my ramp door trailer. Nice saw for $560. I used the Freud Diablo blades on it and it cuts great. I use my Kapex for
siding and trim and the Rigid for framing etc.... Before Kapex I have used the 80T and it did trim just fine. The blade mounted laser was worthless. I wrapped flat rubber around the dust collection port and had great collection from it.
The angle lock is on top, easy reach, was one selling point as well for me.

If you are primarily doing rough work I'd go for the new bosch on the gravity rise stand.  FYI i've seen the old model bosch at lowes with the gravity rise stand for free recently.

I haven't actually used the new Bosch but I played with it in the shops a few times and wasn't really happy with the amount of play on it. the old bosch are pretty good, they have their faults but out of the bunch they're pretty good. Don't own a Kapex as i'm a peasant.

A friend just got his Bosch glide and I helped him set it up—the sucker weighs 65pounds.  Interesting restriction 4½" height against the fence to the right and 6½" to the left.  Makes the Kapex look better.  Dust collection isn't as good as the Kapex but is close (he just got a 36 with his 2200).  Nice precision and repeatability but needs improvement. [sad]

There are some hidden design flaws with the Bosch glide saw that the marketing department "took care of".  When beveling in either direction and doing compound miters, the motor and other parts interfere and significantly reduce the capacity claimed, ohhh, but look over here at the shiny thing! (distraction intentional)
