Question for owners of the Kapex cart.

I haul my Kapex around in the bed of a pickup.  Is there any reason why the little cart wouldn't work?  Suppose there is no ramp so the rig will have to be lifted in and out with the tailgate down.  Wouldn't the ability to set it down and immediately roll it more than make up for the additional weight and bulk?  Can you lay it down on it's back to haul it?

    That is exactly what that little cart is made for (assuming you mean the Kapex UG cart).You can stand it up or down ,its not that heavy ,and the wheels more than make up for the weight . I just got mine and have not moved it around much yet,but I got it for the wheels and roll cage like  protection as much as for the work support extension wings (it was previously on a Ryobi stand) .The only thing i don't like about the UG cart with extension wings,so far , besides the metric scales , is that you can't just grab it and move it around (once set up with the wings)without taking least one wing off .But it is infinitely better ,IMHO,than a typical 60 lb miter saw stand with one measily support point  per side ...

I take mine to customers and job sites in the folded down position commonly. It is easy to get to the truck's tailgate that way and not very difficult to pick up and put on the tailgate. At that point, I just roll it in on its back and secure it.

I haven't seen a video showing someone actually lifting the saw + UG into the bed of a pickup so this is great info.

Now the decision is do I buy one or do I attempt a homemade knockoff.

I have the Kapex with the Kapex MFT that I purchased just months before they NA got the UG.

At a demo day at a dealer I played with the Kapex on the UG. I lifted it "without the wings on the cart"  and found, it would be very easy to put the UG W/Kapex into a truck. A lot easier than putting a Kapex mounted to a MFT....that is for sure! 

What I didn't have a chance to test and don't know is how stable the Kapex UG would be sitting in the bed. The Kapex on a MFT is rock sold sitting in a bed. But I want help to get it in the truck.

From what I have seen of the UG... I would spend more money (time and materials) trying to build a knockoff and never get to the level of precision of the UG that I expect of all my Festool tools.
