Hi all:

A few months ago, it was possible to purchase a Systainer with an assortment of abrasives.  It was available in 5" and 6" and I think it was around $150 (??).  I can't seem to find that anymore.  Was it just a special time limited item or am I just not smart enough to find it now?

Thanks for any input.

As I understand it, it was part of the Fall 2008 promotion, available 15 Sep 2008, and was a "Limited time offer, while supplies last.".

Festool 5" and 6" Abrasive Assortment Systainers
5" Assortment Product No. M0077
6" Assortment Product No. M0078

Get organized with these sanding assortment packs.Filled with the most common sanding abrasives, these systainers will make finding and storing your sandpaper faster than ever before. The unique systainer system also allows you to attach the sanding assortment to your Festool sander systainer for easy transport. The 5? assortment works with the Rotex RO 125 and the ETS 125 sanders. The 6? assortment works with the Rotex RO 150, ETS 150/3, ETS 150/5, LEX 2 150/3, and LEX 2 150/7 sanders. Limited time offer, while supplies last.

See the Fall 2008 Promo page for details of this and other promos.

Here's a link for the 5" Promo Package

Steve - thanks for giving a link to the M0077 set that Tool Home is selling. Glad there are still some out there for sale!

Forrest

Bob marino had some available recently, I don't know if they are still available though.

Thank you all for the quick response.  I am looking to purchase my first Festool and it will be the 150/5 with CT22.  As this would be my first Festool sander, I'm looking for some guidelines on how to put together an assortment of abrasives.  I understand this would be different from person to person and would be influenced by the type of what one does so there is no "right" answer.

For me, I usually start with either rough cherry stock and combine with maple or cherry veneer plywood.  I primarily build Shaker style (i.e plain, not very elaborate) furniture and case goods.

Any guidelines or advise is appreciated.  If this information is already available on this forum somewhere, please provide a pointer.

Thanks, Steve

Steve,

First, welcome to the forum.  We hope to continue to hear from you in the future.

Generally, for use with raw wood, you will want to look at Rubin abrasives for coarse sanding and Brilliant for finish sanding.  The members of the forum can probably provide you with more detail regarding their own personal preferences.

Steve,

A Forrest mentioned, these were for the Fall 08 promotions...as supplies last. Maybe we will see them again...at least I hope it becomes a regular Festool product.
I think 80 through 180 Rubin and 220 and 320 Brilliant should suit you well.

I just received one that came via Ace Tool 3 days ago. I have no idea of their quantity on hand as I was not the purchaser only the blessed receiver [big grin]

Maybe it's the wrong place to suggest it, but it would be nice if this assortment remained on the catalog.  I bought the 150mm recently and like it, but I had no 150mm sheets before.  The 125mm promo came out after I had purchased 50ct boxes of P80, P120 and P180 so buying that promo, well, overloads me on those grits.  In the future, it would be nice if there'd be a bundled purchase you can make where you get the abrasives systainer and 5 or 6 (125 vs 150) 50ct boxes of grit (your choice).  A little like the bundle promos that are always available (Rotex 150+CT22, etc.)  If I had this option, I'd get the 125 promo with some higher grits or swap Brilliant2 for some Rubin grits.
