Question re 850 planer/chip collection

Hi

I just received my 850 planer and am having a problem figuring out how to attach to my Festool dust collector. I'm using the same hose I use with all my other Festool products (about 12 at last count) but I can't figure out how it should fit into the planer. The chip port on the planer is sort of elliptical, not round. The adapter included with the planer is also a different diameter than the hose.

Hard to believe I should just jam a round hose into an elliptical opening (well - I tried but chips sprayed out around the hose so this can't be right.)

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Sounds like maybe you don't have the screw on hose attachment part.

Here are some pictures. The D27 hose that came with your vac will fit and work with the 850 planer, but the larger D36 hose fits better and works better  on that tool.  You will probably get some clogs with the D27 hose depending on the type of wood, depth and speed of cut.

You  need to push the D27 into the port far enough to sort of snap into place.

And remember to flip the left/ right selector, I have forgotten that a couple times. It really doesn't collect  in that case  ::)  [embarassed]

I do have the adapter in place but the hose didn't fit very well and I got a bit of "blow-by". I wasn't aware that there was a larger hose but now that I am I'll see if I can find one locally (in Tucson - not so easy to find ANYTHING but I'll give it a shot.) Planer itself is great

Highly recommend larger hose for that planer!

Can clog up fast on the smaller hose and is very annoying!

Yeah, the  larger hose would definitely be the best choice.  I bet one of the dealers could get it to you pretty fast.  The larger hose is also a good choice for the 1400 , router and Kapex  if you currently own or plan to get one of those.

Broke down and ordered the larger hose online - Amazon of all places. We have a Woodcraft here but they never seem to have anything much in stock, particularly parts. The hose should be here Saturday.

Thanks for all the feedback
