hi again

i am looking into purchasing a 2500mm guiderail for use on site and was wondering about the best way to store it in my van (renault trafic swb)
should i lay it flat or on edge

Since the length may be critical when it comes to fitting it into the van, note that there doesn't seem to be a 2500mm long rail!

The Festool UK site only lists 7 standard quiderails (ie without shelf holes):

Having said that, the 2700mm guide rail is available from several UK dealers, including Healy's and is mentioned on page 13 of Festool UK's 2009 Price List!

Hopefully someone in the trade will come along with their preferred solution, but I think I'd make a simple box made out of thin MDF/plywood/hardboard facings, separated by pine battens or narrow strips of sheet material:

I'd make the box deep enough to house any other rails you want to protect, and maybe secure the lid using Velcro straps or hinges. That should protect the rails from pretty well anything in the back of the van.

The long rails come in a reasonably well constructed box made of wood and MDF. That's what I use to transport my 3 meter rail.

I also use the box that my long rail came shipped in.  It has a 2 x 2 frame with tempered hardboard stapled on the top and bottom.  I took off one end.  Stack the second rail upside down on the first.  Not pretty but GREEN.  I reused something.

thanks for all of your replies but i think i may have encountered a problem already.i may have to cut out a small portion of the bulkhead to get the rail in so i will slide under the drivers seat.so do you think laying them down they will be ok

i plan on supporting them well so i hope it works when i redo my van i will takes some pics for you guys and hopefully you will like them

Lee, i look forward to your pics.  I also have a traffic swb van & was planning to rearrange the racking inside to suit systainers.  I fitted my van out before i had any Festools but now i have many, actually they are all i use.  I might wait till the summer & change the van to a Master, i love the Traffic but is a bit on the small side for my needs.  As others say, the box the rail comes in is pretty good, my 3m rail was well protected but i never take it on site.

i love my trafic small enough to park pretty much anywhere quick and big enough for me and my festools i also racked my van out before i had festools and now its getting full of alot of tools i never really use so it needs a good sort out it wil be a few weeks before i can do it anyway

Yeah I have an idea Festool must have discontinued the 2700 as I picked one up really cheap last christmas from toolfest as if they were selling them off to get rid of them

I didnt think Festool's were compatible with French vans  [big grin] [smile] [wink]

I still have to rack out my new T5 but I want to get it right this time so always on the look out for ideas.

Well.... I took that pic on the way home from a job site. My T4 (extended wheelbase) is most of the time maxed out and we have to do several trips... Would like to get a Sprinter but it's just too much $$$$$$$$$$
