Biggest issue is I took a 5 minute job and turned it into a 5 hour job.

RDMuller said:Structure wise, the rail probably isn't affected all that much. I did a similar dumb move. Remember that all tools are guided by the raised bar on the rail, not the edge. I put on a new splinter guard tape. Does anyone know if these aluminum rails could be repaired? Both sides would have to be perfectly smooth (top and bottom).
I believe aluminum can be welded. On mine, I would not mess with it as I don't have interference with functionality

Why cut it up? As RDMuller say's, it'll still work perfectly fine - just fit a new splinter guard.
