The other day some one gave me a print out on
raisins soaked in gin to relieve arthritis pain.
Seems that you soak white raisins in gin until
the gin evaporates (1lb of raisins to a pint of Gin)
then eat 9 a day.
When I told this to my suffering wife she said,
How much is Gin ?  ::)

Has any one tried this ?

Bob

Hmmm, after the water and alcohol evaporate you've got raisons infused with the extract of juniper berries.

"Apothecaries once used gin as juniper berries are used to treat kidney ailments. More recently, golden raisins soaked in gin have become popular as a home remedy for arthritis (see page 233)."

try sloe gin, make it yourself

put soles into a bottle of gin and leave for as long as you can

months rather than weeks

it wont cure arthritus but its old fashioned and unusual and is worth the wait

DD,
The only soles we can find around here are on our shoes.
They must be good, Charley Chaplin liked them.
there I go , dating my self.

Is that "soles" as in the bottom of shoes, "soles" as in the fish, or some other kind of sole? Whatever, it doesn't sound appetizing.

Apparently gin is basically vodka with flavoring (mainly juniper). It's not actually distilled from juniper berries, which surprised me, but rather potatoes. So you could make your own by getting some very pure vodka, and then dumping in some juniper berries, coriander, rosemary, anise, maybe some cucumber (save it for pickles).

Or just drink gin and tonics until your arthritis doesn't bother you any more.

Have you tried glucosamine? My dog and I take it every day. Yesterday I had to ask my wife to take the lid off the pickle jar, so perhaps it's not working...

How do you turn to page 233
Also they believe that the sulfur used to bleach the raisins
has an effect.

Poto. my Dad made gin with juniper berries and grain alcohol
in the bath tub. They didn't have a container big enough to hold 5 gallons.
They took it for a ride in the car to age it.

I know, now the dog walks you

I love that image - driving 5 gallons of gin around in the car!

The problem with this arthritis thing is that I'm young! Not even 50 yet!

It's all this typing. Bad for the hands. I should stick to wood working - a much better use of my few remaining muscles...

I don't know why they didn't just pore the juniper
berries In the can and be done with it. Maybe because
they had to add water or then again alcohol was involved.

I was just a kid. Lived on Long Island Sound.
Had to stay in at night, the Feds were always
shooting at the rum runners.

Bob

See - I grew up in Canada, where drinking is highly respected, and rum runners are solid citizens. We shoot at bears and stray moose that wander into our igloos.

Hi all,

Sorry to barge in,

Just a quick stop to help with the geographic vernacular,

for my Festool cousins who are not familiar with the north eastern coastline.

Daddy up above called it Long Island Sound.

Only people from Lawnguyland call it Long Island sound.

The sound is also bordered by NY state, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Block Island and if you want to get picky

Marthas Vineyard.  These people refer to this body of water as "The Sound".

Daddy should know better, he is a Connecticut Yankee. ;D

I had a friend who lived on Ma'tha's Vinyahd.  whenever his arthritis bothered his shoulder, he would drink a copious quantity of Jack Daniels.  when all feeling was gone, he would rotate his arm with much grinding noises until it stopped hurting.  I was never around him the next morning to confirm the value of his self treatment, but even several days later, he would seem quite spry.

Another great use for raisins is to add a few pounds to a barrel of fresh pressed cider.  Leave the top bung loose and let'er work. Then let it set in the barrel for another year or two.  The results can make you forget about arthrtiis, back pains, sore feet, head aches (til next morning), lost loves and just about everything else problematical.  :o :o :o

Tinker,

Apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water is an old Vermont Folk
Medicinal  cure for what ails you.

Back in Rum Runner days they would freeze the cider in the barrel  and tap
the juice that didn't turn to ice -- the original Apple Jack.

Try a table spoonful of Cold pressed Flaxseed oil on soft boiled eggs for  breakfast, you will be surprised

Than again Tinker, they say Viagra will put lead in your pencil, but you need
someone to write to.  ::)

I told my wife about the raisins and gin, and she said, "Why would anyone put raisins in gin? They should be using olives!"

Her favorite drink is the 7-olive martini with Bombay Saphire gin. Good stuff.

She doesn't have arthritis either.

Couple of those and you can skip the Anti Pasta.
Couple more and you can forget the correspondence.

The way this is going it'll be Gin out the neck o th' bottle, and a scant bowlful of raisins sitting on the sideboard fer when you git peckish. :D
