RAS 115 handle falls off with stripped threads???

Had an odd thing happen today and wanted to know if anyone else has seen this.  I've been using my RAS to remove finish from the exterior of a log cabin.  I picked up the RAS today and handle fell off in my hand and had stripped threads from the aluminum housing.  I never noticed it loose and don't press on the handle particularly hards but that's not to say one of my workers hasn't applied more pressure.

Anyone else ever had any problems with the RAS handle stripping threads out of the tool housing? Since it's out of warranty, will it be fixable by Festool Service?

Just buy a helicoil kit to repair the thread in the tool. It will be cheaper than going to Festool.

That's unfortunate...just used my RAS this afternoon and I'm still impressed with how you can subtly machine surfaces even while using 40 grit if used with a gentle touch.

As the owner of several British motorcycles, I can also say that threads will strip out of aluminum easily if you have a tendency to over torque them which is very easy.  Having experienced that, the best solution as Bohdan suggests is to just Helicoil the threaded holes. The Helicoils are stainless and are virtually impervious to further degradation.

Timeserts are far better quality than Helicoils, but cost more.
