RAS 115 & Thinset Mortar

Great use of the RAS, Chris. Saphir is incredible stuff. Based on my experience it's hard to wear the stuff down. Can I ask how many sheets of abrasive you used and what it looked like afterward?

Shane my guess would be about 8 discs.. [big grin] [big grin]

Chris,

All of that tells you that you did the original tile install correctly.  It should be that much of a pain.  [thumbs up]  Nice work!

Hi Chris, thanks for the info on the RAS....we might have to end up doing the same thing  with our work.

I am starting to think I need a RAS. I did that same job removing, tiles on fiber boad on thinset, on subfloor. What a nightmare. Previous owner also decided to screw the fiber down with about one screw every 2 inches which made it worse. I have no jack hammer, and no RAS. A 3ftx6ft area took me the best part of 2 days to clean.

The RAS would've made mince meat out of that.  [smile]

I used yo use a 5" grinder with a grinders cone to do my finish clean up on sub floor.  What a mess.  It would take two days to vacuum and another week to remove all the masonly buggers from my nose.

The ras is definently the way to go with that.  What kind of power chisel were you using?

We have used the RAS to clean up nasty stuff on the subfloor prior to installing a sheet membrane for tile. The Rotex has been great, as well.  We are using the Rotex to clean dirt, paint, etc off of  plywood prior to installing sheet membranes.

The RAS is more of a beast and it's reserved for chunks of material and other nasty stuff that the Rotex might not handle as well.

The RAS is also great to grind away at stone, corian, etc to help scribe a piece to fit into an opening.

Bosch also makes a wide mouth chisel with an angled shaft. It is listed for vinyl tile or carpet removal, something like that. It seems to be made out of the same steel as all the other chisels. I use mine for removing tiles and thinset. The shaft angle works well for getting under and popping things up.
