The Rts400 is one of those little unsung heroes in the Festool sander collection. We have been running many of the family of sanders very hard with Granat for about 8 months, and every time we plug this one in, its a sweetheart.
This video is not intended to be critical of non Festool sanders, it is more like a partial sensory explanation of what the difference is between a $200+ tool and a $50- tool.
Palm Sander Testing
Honestly, yes, I will pay more for the difference. Not just the sensory, but the controls and extraction...and abrasives.
In the pictures below, we are set up on a staging tower sanding and oiling a reclaimed oak ceiling in an entry foyer that is about 28' off the floor to the peak. We just don't have time to mess around with inferior, incompatible sanders, abrasives and extractors.
Doing this type of prep and finish work without the Festool systems would suck.

One tip that I would hasten to pass on to other RTS 400 users is that its really important to turn the extractor suction all the way down and the tool motor speed all the way up to minimize chatter. This has a pretty serious stroke for its size.
With Granat, this thing is dynamite.
