Bought a new, cheap 20MM forstner bit to “open” the old holes in a slightly water damaged MFT/3.
I reversed the drill rotation, gently entering the holes with the drill bit and the holes did perfectly match the dogs afterwards. This way the bit should not dig into the sides of the holes.
It will probably depend on your bit, but most have large surface areas on the sides so it self senters and self corrects by only holding the drill as straight as possible while slowly letting the weight of the drill to press the bit downwards.
