Removing paint from inside of 50 MM hose

There's nothing wrong with Dan. He just asked a simple question. There is no reason to look any deeper than that.

Dan,

Great to see you posting by the way!  You have been a member here since long before the current CT offerings and didn't mention which model was hosting the hose when it was unintentionally painted.  If you were using a CT-22 or 33 was the painter using the exhaust port on the side that takes the hose by chance?  I ask because I honestly don't remember if when you plug a hose into that if the exhaust is still filtered or bypassed.  I assume it is still filtered.

If you really want to remove the paint then denatured alcohol is an excellent remover for latex based paints that usually will not harm other finishes or even plastic.  Of course there are exceptions;  test in an inconspicuous spot...  It will not help out with oil based products though so if you go this route I hope that oil based was not part of the finish schedule.

Like others have said I don't think it will harm at all to leave the paint inside.  If everything is latex based it might even flake off in time as the hose is flexed if the coating is thick enough.

Gentlemen,

Many thanks for the excellent feedback.

FYI, I'm not offended in any way about the questions challenging my reasons for cleaning out the hose.  Having ones assumptions challenged can generate good discussion.

My concern about the paint in the host is performance impact only.  I'm not concerned about the esthetics or having a few dried paint flakes getting sucked into the bag.  Festool hoses are designed differently from standard corrugated hoses.  Changing the inside of the hose could affect airflow.

For the comments here, it looks like most people think the paint is having a minimal performance impact.  It turns out that this is probably true...

For a while, my CT26 suction didn't seem that good.  Originally, it looked like the painted hose might be the issue.  Based on your feedback, I started looking elsewhere...

The inside of the vac's tube from hose to bag had a little paint, so I looked at the bag.  The bag seemed normal and only partially full, but I realized that it had not been changed since the door painting.  Which meant that the paint had probably coated the inside of the bag.

After replacing the CT26 bag, suction was much better.  To be on the safe side, I inspected filters both CTs (they were fine) and replaced the CT22 bag.  If looks like the suction issue is resolved without removing the paint from the hose.

Thanks,

Dan.

Hey Dan, do I win a prize for the correct guess???  Huh???

Glad you got it sorted though.  The bag getting a good coating on the inside of the paint would reduce the suction, and is not readily apparent from a visual standpoint and initial scratching of the head......
