Ignore all those uncaring slobs who posted to ignore it!

My OCD would force me to clean it up as well. There were several good suggestions made, and *I* would certainly try one or more of them.
Uncaring slobs? LOL. Can we perhaps change that to "ignore those intelligent guys that don't sweat the small stuff"???
And here is where I get serious. Wayne, have you peeked inside your DE hose lately? Are you aware there are probably 2000 dust bunnies hidden inside there? Maybe even some wood chips, perhaps some saw dust, caught in those spirals.....just aching to get out? [eek] That hose is probably kinda dirty too from shop clean up.......just saying. Sounds like a perfect Saturday OCD Project to check that out and formulate a cleaning strategy! Or......just relax, put the above out of your mind, don't worry or think about it...... [poke]
I just checked and my DE hose has no dust bunnies, but it does have 273 wood chips in it ( I might have missed one or two since I only counted twice) and a few aluminum chips that appeared to be lodged in the hose material. I can't reach them - even with a long double jointed needle-nosed plier, so now I have a problem.
[mad]
And if we're being serious:
I haven't felt well enough to turn on a tool in the shop for almost a month. I didn't really check my DE hose - that's just what I would guess is in there.
[big grin]
Most people have some level of OCD. Women have to have shoes that match the purse - or vice-versa. Guys may like matching pen and pencil sets, or socks and ties, or...you get the idea. It's a normal display of personal pride, and at that level is harmless.
Severe cases cause people to - say - wash their hands 10 times in the morning, or measure how far the cups are from the plates on the table, and things like that. It is disruptive to a normal life and usually causes a retreat from normal human interaction. (Fortunately, it can be treated.)
The rest of us fall somewhere in between.
I like 'sets' of things. Tools, storage cabinets, bits, etc. If a tool is missing from a set, I can quickly recognize it, hunt it down, and return it to it's proper place. For instance I am ordering THIS for my sockets:

And I have a real 'thing' for things you can put things in - which is why I am enamored of the Systainers. It is incredibly satisfying to look at a stack of them - all labeled, ready, and waiting. Heck, my avatar proves that.
But back to Dan. It clearly bothers him that there is paint in his DE hose. Just posting here proves that.
I am able to sleep just fine knowing that there are wood chips and dust bunnies inside the DE hose, because they are 'normal' byproducts of using my DE. I.e., they belong there. Plus, I could easily clean them out at any time - so I don't have to! (That might not make sense to someone who doesn't have or suffer from OCD, but will immediately be understood by someone who does.)
Paint, on the other hand, DOESN'T belong there and, like Dan, would drive me a little nuts. i don't think it would cause me to replace the hose...but it might.
Now, to be SUPER serious:
I don't know if Dan has OCD or not, and I don't care one way or the other. I just hope my examples shed a little light on how a seemingly unimportant thing to some could be a REAL problem to certain people.
I realize that no one here is intentionally picking on Dan, so I offer the above as a bit of a peek into the life of a person with OCD. I don't really have it, but have a friend who does. Telling them to 'just live with something' or to 'ignore it' might be possible for you, but it isn't an option for them. Please be sensitive when you post.
We ALL have a bit of OCD, or we wouldn't like Festool so much!
And thus ends todays's sermon...
