I just bought a new (reconditioned) ETS EC 150/5 sander. I believe it comes with a hard pad. I'm interested in getting a soft pad for finer grit sanding as well.

Which pad(s) model number(s) should I be looking for?

If I remember correctly it will come with a soft pad (which is basically Festool’s medium) which is the black one. If you want to make big surfaces flat and keep them flat then get the hard pad as well. If you do a lot of contours and like to soften edges with the sander then consider the ultra-soft pad as well.

If you use any mesh discs you'll also need the pad protector, which is a thin velcro pad that stops the main pad from being destroyed.

Yeah, so it comes with the medium pad, my mistake.

I have a Bosch 1370DEVS that I've put into the equivalent of rotex mode permanently, and have a hard pad with protector(s) for it, so that'll take whatever heavy duty removal tasks I have. The ETS EC 150/5 will be for smoothing, so I'm actually thinking the medium pad is probably perfect for most, and maybe an interface pad in case I'm working on rounded edges and the like.

Unfortunately, my protector pads are not for Festool's hole pattern. I briefly played around with trying to redrill them, but they don't drill cleanly and it's just too much effort. So, I'm buying protector pads and an interface pad for now.

thanks!
