In December my dust extractor quit working. I had bought it new about 11 years ago. I was pretty conflicted about getting it repaired vs buying a replacement. We packed it up and sent to the Repair Center at cost of $70+ for bottom level of UPS delivery.
Repair cost was quoted at around $270 and included:
New turbine
New power cord
New receptacle plug on front panel
That seemed like a lot of money, but the one thing that looked way off to me was the power cord at $71.50. I called the Repair Center to inquire. They told me that the insulation on the cord was damaged and it needed to be replaced.
Now, if I were fixing this at home I would have reused the power cord. And since the cord is so beefy I asked for them to send back the old one.
When the repaired machine arrived today I was surprised to see that the new cord is much less substantial than the original.
As to whether the insulation was damaged, I can’t say. It did bear the marks of being securely held in place near the terminals. Maybe a power cord with 12 gauge wire would have been cost prohibitive.
The original cord will be used to make an extension cord.
Bottom line is that I feel the repair is good value. In fact, as they told me which parts were included in the quote, I could have bought them and done the repair myself. It just wasn’t worth more of my effort to go that route.

Was the failure that it would no longer turn on? Mine failed a few weeks ago with this pattern. Used a sander for 20 minutes or so and then switched sanders. Vacuum would not turn on when triggered so I turned the vacuum off and then back to triggered start. It worked, but after the next power off that was the end. It does not work in the ON or AUTO mode.

Vac would not power up. Could still run a tool through the onboard receptacle when switched to auto.

Glad to know your repair was successful.  Festool has switched to a different power cord on the newer vacs. That is probably why it is different on your repair.
