I buy my dowels from Wood Dowel. But the cut the spiral instead of rolling them in. I don’t know what difference that would make.
I use fluted dowels as they are rolled and compressed. The expand quite a bit when they absorb the water in the glue, making a very tight tit.
But Wood Dowel has minimums and you might do better at your local lumber/hardware store.
